Junior Women’s Sculling Camp
Tempe, Ariz.
January 2-5, 2008
The purpose of this camp is two-fold. The primary focus of the camp will be instructional with an emphasis on providing insight into what is required of our best junior women scullers and the tools to achieve success at the international level. Our coaches will work hard to demonstrate ways the athletes can improve and help athletes discover that the junior national team is both attainable and fun. The secondary focus of the camp will be early identification of possible candidates for national team programs. Rowers will row twice daily in singles and doubles (and perhaps quads), as well as have daily seminars and group discussions covering a wide array of topics including:
* The Junior Women’s National Team: Presented by Bill Zack -- who we are and what the selection camp and development camp are all about.
* The learning experience of the 2007 Junior World Championships, with a question and answer session with Erin Crawford, stroke of the U.S. double at the 2007 Junior Worlds and Daniel Duxbury, coach of the U.S. double at the 2007 Junior Worlds.
* Expectations and things you can do to become a more effective sculler, including specialized drills, how to use tapes (both audio and video) for feedback, technique issues and training tips.
How to Register
Simply e-mail Coach Duxbury at danielgduxbury@mac.com to request a copy of the camp application. All applications must be received by December 1. Accepted participants will be notified no later than December 5. While all scullers are encouraged to apply, priority will be given to those athletes who demonstrate potential competitiveness for national team programs. Please consult the time standards outlined below to help in determining this.
