Camp Details
All athletes should arrive in Oakland on Sunday, June 8th and be prepared for the first practice on the morning of Monday, June 9th.  If you have a school conflict, we will be able to accommodate. The time in Oakland will be spent selecting the fastest combinations of athletes for the camp boats (eight and four). Camp boat selection may continue until July 6th, although it can be finalized prior to that date. Cuts can be made at any time throughout the camp.

The camp will move to Princeton, NJ on July 12-18th to train alongside the US Senior Team 8+ and 4-. USRowing will purchase airplane tickets ahead of time and the cost will be included in the athlete’s overall fee.

The eight and straight four will leave for Italy on July 18th and return on July 28th. Athletes are responsible for getting themselves home upon return to the United States.

Invited coxswains will be expected to bring their own coxbox equipment, including a gps watch and/or speedcoach unit.

Accommodations
Coaches are in the process of securing host homes for all athletes training in Oakland. Accommodations will be provided to athletes while training in Princeton, NJ. The expense for housing in Princeton will be covered by the athlete’s fee. Food will not be covered while the team is training in the US and transportation will be coordinated among camp members who have vehicles.

Finances
Cost for the selection camp is $750, which is due May 12th. ($500 is a non-refundable deposit unless an athlete becomes sick, injured or their team decides to attend Henley Royal Regatta). The cost of the selection camp includes: housing, coaching, equipment and facility fees. Athletes are responsible for transportation to Oakland, CA. NCAA rules allow a school’s rowing program to cover athlete expenses through the selection phase of camp. It is worth checking with your coach to see if your program will help pay a portion of your selection camp fee. Wait list athletes should not provide USRowing with the $750 camp fee.

The cost for the trip to the World Rowing Under 23 Championships is still being determined, but could be as high as $2,000 plus airfare, although it is likely to be significantly lower than that. The cost for the trip to the World Rowing Under 23 Championships covers everything and will be collected no later than July 6th.  USRowing will again set up Donor Pages with the National Rowing Foundation where each boat can fundraise to cover their expenses.  This has been successful in the past and we will begin early efforts to help the athletes offset the cost of their summer rowing.

The camp fee ($750) must be paid by check or credit card by May 12th. If you want to use a credit card, please contact Liz Soutter at 609-751-0714 to process your payment over the phone. Checks should be made out to “USRowing” and specify “Men’s U23 Sweep Camp – Athlete’s Name” on the memo line. The mailing address is:
