U.S. Earns 12 Medals at CanAmMex Regatta
The 2024 CanAmMex International Regatta concluded in Mexico City yesterday with the U.S. bringing home eight gold medals and four bronze. CanAmMex is an annual collaboration camp between Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. that includes a week of training followed by a regatta.
The United States men’s and women's eights secured decisive victories at the regatta. The women’s crew, composed of Kathryn McBride, Emily Turnbull, Elizabeth Hicks, Emma Cronin, Molly Peacock, Audrey Cronin, Elizabeth Peberdy, and coxswain Isabel Michaelson, finished with a time of 07:05.84, 17.73 seconds ahead of second-place Canada. The men’s eight crossed the finish line in 06:17.66. Their time left Mexico A, the closest competitor, trailing by over six seconds at 06:23.87.
The men’s and women’s four earned top spot on the podium by beating out second place by seven and nine seconds, respectively. With a time of 06:43.25, the men’s four, made up of Nicolas Leach, Pierce Lapham, Anton Butler, and Augustine Freijo, finished 7.26 seconds ahead of Mexico A. The women's four, comprised of Kathryn McBride, Emma Cronin, Emily Turnbull, and Audrey Cronin, clocked in at 07:46.59, outpacing Mexico's team by 9.28 seconds.
Both the men's and women’s quadruple sculls earned gold medals over Mexico A in their respective races. The men crossed the finish line with a time of 06:25.67. The crew, consisting of Luke Jordan, Orlando Watson, Andrew Vizecky, and Michael Kourakos, left their closest competitors, Mexico A, trailing by over 10 seconds with a time of 06:35.91. The women also showcased a dominant performance. Zola Young, Viktoria Ekstrand, Yaara Ronen, and Enya Gilroy, crossed the finish line with a time of 07:12.98, winning the race by over 21 seconds.
The U.S. men's pair B brought home gold at the regatta, as well. Jack Kastner and Huck Jagerson completed the race with a time of 07:28.15, outpacing their competitors by a 14.74 second margin.
In a strong performance, the U.S. women's double sculls clinched gold. The duo, Yaara Ronen and Enya Gilroy, crossed the finish line with a time of 08:01.14, leaving their nearest competitors, Mexico A's Andrea Imelda Sigala León and Nancy Karina Duran Villegas, trailing by 19.43 seconds with a time of 08:20.57.
