Personal

Pearl enjoys playing guitar, knitting, cross-country skiing, and thrifting. She is currently working towards being a dual-sport athlete in rowing and Nordic skiing/biathlon. She has a German Shepherd guide dog named Cinder, who comes on all of her training trips and to most of her races. Pearl said she was not a very athletically inclined kid, but in high school, she started running cross-country and wanted to find more sports to try. Someone at her school was doing learn-to-row over the summer, and Pearl tagged along. She went to the 5:45 a.m. sessions all summer and was totally hooked. Her school didn't have a rowing team, but she talked her way on to one of the two high school teams in her hometown, so she could keep rowing through the fall and spring until she graduated high school. Pearl lists her parents as her persona heroes because she has never met two people who are more hard-working, generous, and selfless. They both built their lives and businesses from scratch, leaving home and meeting while working in a restaurant in Washington state. Pearl said her parents have had some unusual experiences, with her dad working for some time on a fishing boat and her mom living in a treehouse. Pearl said her parents have instilled the same sense of adventure, confidence, and independence in her, and she is so grateful for them.
