Bridge is a free upgrade from Basic to Championship individual membership for youth athletes with demonstrated financial restrictions. Bridge members will also receive waived entry fees at USRowing-owned events (such as the USRowing Youth Series, Youth Nationals, and RowFest). To be considered for Bridge membership, applicants must demonstrate financial restrictions and their club or school mustn’t already cover membership and regatta participation fees.
College program administrators can purchase Basic memberships for their athletes that are valid for their entire collegiate careers. Collegiate membership costs $50 for college-affiliated athletes between 17 and 23 years old, and is valid until December 31st of the year the athlete turns 23. Collegiate members can upgrade to a year of Champ membership for $40.
We recommend all coaches become Championship members so they can get free access to Level I coach certification (mandatory starting in 2025), additional free continuing education offerings,, and receive access to our excess accident medical coverage, which provides up to $25,000 in secondary medical coverage ($250 deductible) should personal medical costs arise from a rowing-related incident.
Our Supporter membership is for some of the unsung heroes of our sport who don’t compete or coach, including board members, administrators, parent volunteers, chaperones, and other team supporters. Supporter membership includes access to required U.S. Center for SafeSport training and free learning and development courses on The Launch.
If you’re a rower-for-life or just want to give back to the USRowing community, Lifetime membership offers all the benefits of Champ membership for as long as you row and a special gift from USRowing. $750 of the cost of Lifetime membership is tax-deductible.
All USRowing-certified referees receive a free Championship-level membership, and a free upgrade to Lifetime membership after five consecutive years of service.
All Team USA Olympic and Paralympic rowers and coaches receive a free Lifetime membership from USRowing. If you’re eligible but don’t see Lifetime status in the USRowing member portal, give us a shout at members@usrowing.org.
Our International membership is free for athletes that reside outside the United States and enables them to participate at USRowing-sanctioned regattas. We are proud to honor membership reciprocity with your home nation’s rowing association. Membership requires signing the USRowing membership waiver, but you’re not required to complete Safesport training. International membership does not extend insurance coverage and you must become a Championship member if you want to participate at USRowing-hosted regattas.
Yes. Any person who rows with a USRowing member organization is considered to be a Participant of USRowing. All individual participants must meet individual requirements including membership, waiver, and SafeSport training (if applicable).
Participants who participate in learn-to-row camps or clinics for three days or less only need to sign the paper copy of the waiver. The club hosting the program should keep these paper waivers on file and archive them at the conclusion of the season or activity. If the camp or activity is more than three days (they do not have to be consecutive), Participants will need to purchase membership, such as the Learn- to- Row membership, which is -our new $10, sixty- day membership that is not valid for competition, or Basic membership, which is valid for competition and extends 365 days from the date of purchase.
Safe Sport is a program designed to prevent abuse and misconduct in sports by promoting a culture of safety, respect, and accountability. Overseen by the U.S. Center for SafeSport and authorized by the U.S. Congress, it provides training, reporting mechanisms, and policies to protect athletes – especially minors – from harassment, bullying, and abuse. It is required for all organizations within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic movement to ensure consistent safety standards, compliance with federal laws, and a positive environment where athletes can excel without fear. By implementing Safe Sport, the Olympic movement prioritizes athlete welfare and fosters trust in the sports community.
Requirements for Member Organization Board Members and Administrators (regardless of the participant’s age that under your authority) are:

* USRowing is working on the best ways to ensure that our requirements are rooted in effective risk mitigation and not just administrative compliance. There are few areas where we will continue to work with the U.S. Center for SafeSport and the USOPC to ensure we create an effective risk mitigating policy prior to March 1, 2025
Unfortunately, background checks are often duplicative. The USOPC requires USRowing to conduct background checks with very specific criteria. Many employers’ background checks fail to meet the USOPC standard, or employers may not allow background checks to be shared. USRowing is building an API-integrated background check process to ensure members can easily access the USOPC-required background check.
