PR3 Mixed Double to Race in Gavirate This Weekend

USRowing will have a PR3 mixed double sculls crew racing in this weekend's 16th Gavirate International Para Rowing Regatta in Gavirate, Italy.

The crew of Pearl Outlaw (Charlottesville, Va./Ithaca College) and Todd Vogt (Rochester, N.Y./University of Buffalo) will get the chance to race multiple times this weekend starting Friday. Outlaw, a two-time national team member and 2019 bronze medalist in the PR3 mixed double, and Vogt, a 2019 National Team member, won the event at the 2022 USRowing National Selection Regatta/Speed Order 1 in Sarasota in March.

"We are very excited to be here in Italy training and racing," Vogt said. "Our goals for this trip are to have some high-quality practices on a buoyed racecourse and to have some fun racing against our European competitors."

With the event recently being elevated to the Paralympic program for 2024, this weekend is a chance to get multiple races down the course and test their speed ahead of this summer's national team trials and ultimately the 2022 World Rowing Championships in September. National team trials in the event will be held as part of the USRowing Summer National Championships July 6-9 on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J.

"Since NSR1/Speed Orders, Pearl and I have been working out together on a daily basis both in the double and on land in the weight room and on the ergs and bikes," Vogt said. "We have a great setup here with nice equipment, a great coach in Susan Wood, a great body of water to row on the Willamette River, and plenty of competition from the other rowers at Portland Boat Club. We are excited to see what we're capable of this summer and beyond."

The 2022 World Rowing Championships are scheduled for September 18-25 in Racice, Czech Republic.
