PR3 Mixed Double Wins Heat to Open Gavirate International Para Rowing Regatta

The U.S. PR3 mixed double sculls crew of Pearl Outlaw (Charlottesville, Va./Ithaca College) and Todd Vogt (Rochester, N.Y./University of Buffalo) won its opening heat on Friday at the 16th Gavirate International Para Rowing Regatta in Gavirate, Italy.

Racing in the second of two heats, the duo clocked a 7:39.70 to finish more than 12 seconds ahead of Great Britain's Daniel Powell and Annie Caddick. In the first heat, Austria's David Erkinger and Johanna Beyer won the race in an 8:00.47.

Outlaw and Vogt will race tomorrow at 11:20 a.m. local time in the final. They will then get the chance to compete in a second round of racing starting tomorrow afternoon with the second set of heats. The second final will take place on Sunday. Outlaw, a two-time national team member and 2019 bronze medalist in the PR3 mixed double, and Vogt, a 2019 National Team member, won the event at the 2022 USRowing National Selection Regatta/Speed Order 1 in Sarasota in March.

With the event recently being elevated to the Paralympic program for 2024, this weekend is a chance for the duo to get multiple races down the course and test their speed ahead of this summer's national team trials and ultimately the 2022 World Rowing Championships in September.

National team trials in the event will be held as part of the USRowing Summer National Championships July 6-9 on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. The 2022 World Rowing Championships are scheduled for September 18-25 in Racice, Czech Republic.
