Level 2 Coaching Certification


Course Description

Level 2 is a blended course combining online learning with live, instructor-led training. This certification builds practical coaching skills and deepens foundational knowledge for coaches working with athletes at all levels.


Course Structure

Online Learning (15–20 hours)

  • Self-paced modules on our online learning platform
  • Access granted immediately after completing registration and payment
  • Content aligned with the Level 2 manual and designed to prepare you for the live sessions

Live Instruction (10 hours)

  • Delivered via Zoom with USRowing instructors and trained facilitators
  • Includes lectures, discussions, and small-group application work
  • All live sessions are mandatory—please choose a course that fits your schedule

Course Cost: $250


Includes access to all online modules, 10 hours of live instruction and the digital Level 2 manual.

Coaches who qualify may apply for the United We Row Coaches Scholarship, which covers the full cost of tuition.


Certification Requirements

These are not prerequisites and may be completed before or after the course.
All items must remain current for Level 2 coaches to stay in good standing. Upload documentation in your Member Portal coaching profile.

  • Adult CPR
  • First Aid
  • Boating License or Safety Certification
  • NCSI Background Check
  • SafeSport Training

How to Register

  1. Log in to your Member Profile
    • Your membership must include an active Championship Membership to register
  2. Click “Register” at the top of your coaching profile
  3. Select the Level 2: Foundation Level Coach course you want to attend
  4. Complete payment
  5. Follow the confirmation page instructions to begin the online modules on Launch

How much does the Level 2 Coach Certification cost?

Level 2 certification costs $250.

What are the requirements and prerequisites to become a certified Level 2 coach?

Prerequisites: Candidates for Level 2 must be at least 18 years old, with 3 years of rowing/coxing experience and approximately 1 year of coaching experience and have previously completed the Level 1 Coach Certification. Candidates must also hold Championship membership to register for the course.

Certification: Candidates must complete the Level 2 course work, attend the live virtual sessions (10 hours), and submit all supplemental requirements: 

  • SafeSport training
  • USOPC-approved NCSI Background Check
  • First Aid training
  • Adult CPR/AED training
  • Boater Safety License if applicable
  • Continuing Education Credits (CECs) starting January 1, 2026
I'm a Member Organization. What happens if I don't have a Level 2 certified coach by January 1, 2026?

Based on member feedback, we are delaying implementation of the Level 2 requirement for member organizations. We plan to continue engagement with stakeholders to further discuss and refine plans for 2026 and beyond.

Are all Member Organizations required to have a Level 2 Certified Coach?
