2025 USRowing Southwest Masters Championships - Chula Vista, CA

Chula Vista, CA – June 3, 2025, 9:30 a.m. PT, USRowing has announced the cancellation of the 2025 USRowing Southwest Masters Championships, initially scheduled for June 21–22 at Lower Otay Lake in Chula Vista, California.    

The Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center (CVEATC) and USRowing learned last week of another event permitted with the city of San Diego, taking place on the lake during the same time. Despite CVEATC's efforts to work with the city of San Diego, it became clear that hosting the events simultaneously would not be feasible.      

After careful consideration and exploration of other options, USRowing regrettably has no other choice but to cancel the event and offer all registered participants a full refund on entry fees.      

The USRowing 2025 Southwest Masters Championships had been scheduled to take place in partnership with the CVEATC since 2022. While the CVEATC does not own or wholly control the Lower Otay Lake Reservoir, their operations to date have not required permits for lake access and usage. USRowing and CVEATC are committed to working with the city of San Diego to continue to grow the sport of rowing and Olympic sports in general as we look towards the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.    

We encourage all Southwest participants to compete at the 2025 USRowing Northwest Masters Championships scheduled June 20-22 in Lowell, Ore., and are offering a 30% discount on entry fees to competitors who registered for the Southwest Regional Championships. The Phase I entry deadline has been extended to allow competitors to consider this opportunity and change their travel plans.   

USRowing and CVEATC deeply apologize for this disappointing and regretful turn of events. We thank our community for its patience and resilience, and we look forward to delivering a competitive and rewarding experience at the USRowing Northwest Masters Championships. We hope you will consider joining us.

The 2025 USRowing domestic regatta entry packets were posted for a comment period to all members from December 1 to December 31, 2024. The final entry packet for the 2025 USRowing Southwest Masters Championships has now been published.
