2021 USRowing Indoor Nationals Set to Take Place This Sunday
More than 1,300 competitors from 284 clubs and 29 countries are gearing up for this Sunday's 2021 USRowing Indoor National Championships/C.R.A.S.H.-B. Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships.
The championship, which is being held virtually this year, will feature racing in the under 15, under 17, under 19, under 23, open, para and masters categories, including lightweight racing in multiple age categories starting with the under 23 events. First-, second- and third-place medals will be up for grabs in a total of 68 race categories.
The men's and women's U19 events lead the way in terms of total entries. The men's U19 race features 152 competitors, while the women's race has 138 entries. Both U17 races also topped the 100-entry mark, with 127 men and 110 women entered in their respective events.
In the masters' categories, the men's masters C event has 85 entries, while the women's masters C event has 40 entries. Thirty-six para and adaptive athletes are scheduled to race.
At 95, Mile High Rowing Club's Dean Smith is the oldest competitor, while 10-year old Callum Palmer is the youngest competitor.
As a club, Brophy College Preparatory Crew has the most entries with 47, followed by Indianapolis Rowing Center with 39, Lakeside School with 38 and Community Rowing of San Diego with 36.
Racing, which will be streamed live on USRowing's YouTube channel, begins at 10 a.m. ET with the under 15 events. Coverage will begin at 9:50 a.m. with a kick-off video.
In addition to live racing, the broadcast will feature pre-recorded interviews with several special guests including USRowing CEO Amanda Kraus; Arsahy Cooper, author of A Most Beautiful Thing; Deb Arenberg, Alice Henderson and U.S. Para National Team member Russell Gernaat, representing USRowing's Freedom Rows Program; Ellen Minzner, USRowing's Para High Performance Director; and Olympian Kara Kohler, who just earned her spot on the U.S. team in the women's single sculls for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
