A Letter from Josy Verdonkschot, Chief High Performance Officer

Dear Family of USRowing,

A new year has arrived, and with it a new and exciting challenge. I have the honor of becoming a member of this community. In the past days, I have received many messages of congratulation and welcome for the appointment as the new Chief High Performance Officer.

So now our voyage begins. I understand that expectations are high, and why not? There is such a strong tradition and culture, so much knowledge and talent. We can make up our dreams and work hard to have them come true. This is what rowing at any level is about.

Just for the record, although when I was young, I might have had a slight resemblance to Harry Potter, I am not a magician. I don't have the magic wand that will change the future instantly. In order to change, we need a thorough roadmap for this and the next quadrennium. Not imposed by a distant ruler, but put together and owned by all of us: athletes, staff, the rowing community. With a shared responsibility to stick to our plan.

We will create a clear pathway for athletes from start to end of the athletic career and beyond. A state of the art, safe and sustainable high-performance environment. Transparent procedures and communications. And, we will create One Team USA.

For each and everybody who wants to join the voyage, I value your ideas and suggestions. Feel free to contact me. My digital door is always open.

All the best,

Josy
