Camahort, Link Named 2021 USRowing Under 19 Athletes of the Year
PRINCETON, N.J. – USRowing is pleased to announce that Julietta Camahort (San Francisco, Calif./Marin Rowing Association) and Ryan Link (Burke, Va./Gonzaga College High School) have been selected as this year's winners of the USRowing Under 19 Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively.
Selected by the athletes and coaches of the team that competed at the 2021 World Rowing Junior Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Camahort and Link will be honored during the USRowing Annual Convention, which will be held virtually this year from December 6-11.
A two-time Under 19 National Team member, Camahort sat six-seat in the women's eight that won the gold medal at the 2021 World Rowing Junior Championships in Bulgaria. The crew used a dominant middle 1,000 meters to walk away with the victory – the first time the U.S. had won the event since 2009. Rowing out of Marin Rowing Association, Camahort was part of Marin's women's eight that won the B final at the 2021 USRowing Youth National Regatta.
Racing at his first junior worlds, Link won a gold medal as a member of the men's eight in Bulgaria. Sitting in seven-seat, Link and his boatmates took the lead as they approached the midway point of the race and pulled away over the final 1,000 meters for an eight-seat victory over Germany – giving the U.S. its first victory in the event since 2010. During the school year, Link helped his Gonzaga College High School eight to a second-place finish at the 2021 Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championships.
USRowing will be announcing this year's beach sprint, under 19, under 23 and senior national team athletes of the year throughout the week of November 15. Those winners, as well as the board-selected award winners and referee award winners, will be honored during the USRowing Annual Convention in December.
