Brett Gorman Named to the World Rowing Competitive Commission
Brett Gorman, USRowing's Director of High Performance Pathways, is joining World Rowing’s Competitive Commission. The Commission plays a key role in driving the growth and evolution of Classic Rowing worldwide. Aligned with World Rowing’s overall strategic goals, the Commission acts as a center of excellence for the discipline—supporting its development in a sustainable and forward-looking manner.
In collaboration with World Rowing’s Development Department, the Commission helps design and implement global coaching programs, produces educational materials, and supports seminars and courses. It is also responsible for organizing the annual World Rowing Coaches Conference and nominating expert contributors to the Coaching Development Cross Commission.
"I'm honored to join the World Rowing Competitive Commission and contribute to the global development of our sport,” said Brett Gorman. “This is an exciting opportunity to represent the U.S. rowing community on an international level and help shape the future of competitive rowing worldwide."
Brett Gorman has worked full-time at USRowing since 2018 and oversees the USRowing Pathway Program. The Program is designed to nurture American rowing talent and provides the resources, coaching, and development pathways required to empower American athletes to become the best in the world.
Gorman has a long history with USRowing, having competed on the U19, U23, and Senior national teams. She is a two-time world champion, winning gold in 2006 and 2007 in the women’s eight, and she served as an alternate for the eight at the 2008 Olympics. She coached at the collegiate level for nine years at the University of Michigan and the University of Virginia. Gorman also worked with USRowing as the Director of Athlete Development for the U23 women’s national team, and in 2020, she transitioned from coaching to become the Director of Coaching Education.
