Racing at the 2022 World Rowing Under 23 Championships is scheduled to get underway Monday afternoon with racing in the men's and women's single sculls and lightweight single sculls.

The World Rowing Under 23 and Under 19 Championships will be running simultaneously this year on Lake Varese in Varese, Italy, with the U23 events taking place July 25-30 and the U19 events July 27-31.

The U23 regatta will offer racing in 22 boat classes including the men's and women's single sculls, lightweight single sculls, double sculls, lightweight double sculls, quadruple sculls, lightweight quadruple sculls, pair, lightweight pair, four, four with coxswain, and eight. The U.S. has entries in 21 of the 22 events. The lone event without a U.S. entry is the men's four. In the U19 regatta, the U.S. will have crews competing in all 14 events including the men's and women's single sculls, double sculls, quadruple sculls, pair, four, four with coxswain, and eight.

Four U.S. boats will hit the water on Monday afternoon starting at 5 p.m. local time as racing in the U23 events begins.

In the men's single sculls, Isaiah Harrison (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) is one of 27 single scullers scheduled to race. Harrison won the bronze medal at the 2021 World Rowing Junior Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and is stepping up to the U23 level this season.

In the women's single sculls, Ella Barry (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Princeton University) is part of a 24-boat field. Barry, who just finished her freshman year at Princeton, is making her national team debut. She won the single sculls at the 2021 USRowing Youth National Regatta.

Nicholas Aronow (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Princeton University) returns to race the lightweight men's single sculls. Aronow finished seventh in the event last year and will be looking to improve on that performance in Varese. There are 21 scullers entered in the event.

In the lightweight women's single sculls, Isabella Begley (Moorestown, N.J./University of Virginia) is one of 22 scullers scheduled to race. Begley was part of the lightweight women's quadruple sculls at last year's U23 championships.

The four scullers will not know their opponents until early Monday afternoon, with the lane draw scheduled to take place at 2 pm. local time.

Racing continues Tuesday starting at 9 a.m. local time with the remaining U23 heats and the repechages from Monday's events. Wednesday will feature U19 heats, as well as the remaining repechages and quarterfinals in the U23 events. Thursday's schedule includes semifinals in the U23 events, as well as the remaining U19 heats and repechages. Finals in the U23 events get underway on Friday. Saturday's racing includes the remaining U23 finals, as well as semifinals in the U19 events. Racing concludes Sunday with finals in the U19 events.
