Racing Concludes at the 2021 USRowing Fall Speed Order

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – National team hopefuls concluded a weekend of racing at the 2021 USRowing Fall Speed Order this afternoon on Lake Mercer.

This weekend's speed order featured a 6,000-meter ergometer piece on Friday, two, 1,900-meter time trials on Saturday morning, and the chance to race 2,000 meters in either doubles or singles on Saturday afternoon.

Friday's erg pieces served as the seeding mechanism for Saturday morning's time trials. In the women's single sculls, Craftsbury Green Racing Project's Emily Delleman clocked the fastest time overall, finishing the two, 1,900-meter time trials with a combined time of 15:23.8. Delleman had the fastest times both down and back, finishing her first split in a 7:38.4 and coming home in a 7:45.4. ARION's Kristina Wagner, a Tokyo 2020 Olympian, finished second overall with a time of 15:28.3. Wagner finished third in the race up the course and second coming home. Craftsbury's Grace Joyce finished third overall in a 15:31.3. Joyce traded places with Wagner, finishing second in the opening time trial and third in the second race. Boston Rowing Federation's Maggie Fellows finished fourth overall.

In the time trials of the men's single sculls, Penn AC's Sorin Koszyk and Eliot Putnam clocked the fastest times. Koszyk won the race by finishing second in the opening time trial and then winning the row back down the course. Koszyk finished with an overall time of 14:09.9. Putnam clocked the fastest time going up the course and then finished seventh in the return trip for a combined time of 14:13.0. Koszyk and Putnam represented the U.S. as boatmates in the quadruple sculls at the 2021 Final Olympic Qualification Regatta (FOQR) this past Spring in Lucerne, Switzerland. Texas Rowing Center's Kevin Cardno, who raced the double at the FOQR, finished third, with William Legenzowski, who raced the single at the 2021 World Rowing Under 23 Championships this past summer, finishing fourth.

In the women's pair, USRowing Training Center – Princeton's Kelsey Reelick and Allyson Baker won the three-boat time trial with a combined time of 14:52.6. Reelick and Baker recorded the fastest splits in both legs of the race. Vesper Boat Club's Sophie Pennoyer and Solveig Imsdahl edged out teammates Brooke Wolford and Charlotte Forman by 1.8 seconds over the two races to finish second in a 15:38.0.

Racing uncontested, the unaffiliated duo of Nick Mead and Alex Karwoski clocked an overall time of 13:40.8 in the time trial of the men's pair. Likewise, Community Rowing's Jennifer Fitz-Roy raced uncontested in the PR2 women's single sculls. Fitz-Roy finished with an overall time of 22:04.2.

The top finishers in the morning races of the men's and women's single sculls then had the opportunity to race in double sculls (eight open weight and three lightweight) during the afternoon in a 2,000-meter sprint race. Those athletes who did not qualify or chose not to race in the doubles had the opportunity to compete in singles.

In the final of the women's double sculls, Delleman and Wagner bested Joyce and Fellows to win the race in a 7:33.3. Joyce and Fellows finished one second behind in a 7:34.3. Hannah Paynter and Savannah Brija finished third.

In the final of the men's double sculls, Cardno and Putnam took the victory with a time of 6:50.9. Legenzowski and Jacob Plihal finished second in a 6:53.3. Jack Reid and Ezra Carlson finished third.

While this weekend's results will not have any impact on the 2022 selection process, the event was an opportunity for athletes to see where they stand heading into winter training. The 2022 World Rowing Championships are scheduled to take place September 18-25 in Racice, Czech Republic.
