Summer Nationals Finale: Greenwich Takes Charles P. Colgan Cup
After six days of competitive racing, the 2021 USRowing Summer National Championships has officially concluded. Held on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J., the 2021 Summer Nationals hosted 99 events with 1,662 entries from 124 clubs consisting of racing in the U17, U19, U23 and open divisions. The event allowed athletes of varying ages and experience levels to compete against one another resulting in exciting and challenging races for participating athletes.
Winning the Charles P. Colgan Cup for the highest accumulated team points throughout the regatta was Greenwich Crew. From Cos Cob, Conn., Greenwich entered 55 crews into the competition, 17 of which medaled. The team won gold in the Men's U17 8+, Mens U19 8+, Men's U17 4+, Women's U17 8+, Women's U23 8+, Women's lightweight 4+, Women's 4+ and Men's 8+. Adding to their medal count, the team won silver in the Women's U17 4+, Women's U19 4+, Women's U23 2- and Men's U23 8+. Finishing off their collection, Greenwich won bronze in the Women's U19 8+, Women's U19 2-, Women's U19 4-, Women's U23 lightweight 2x and Men's U23 8+. Additionally, the team had the highest team points in both the women's and men's divisions.
Summer Nationals is officially over! To wrap up the U23/Open finals, the team that accumulated the highest amount of team points throughout the regatta was awarded the Charles P. Colgan Cup! We talked to the coaches of the winning team to hear their thoughts.
