U19, U23, and Senior National Team Trials Commence on Friday


USRowing is hosting the Under 19, Under 23, and Senior National Team Trials for the 2024 World Championships starting Friday, July 5, at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. Athletes will compete for a chance to represent the U.S. at the combined World Rowing Under 19, Under 23 and Senior World Championships later this summer. 

Over 150 athletes from 50 different clubs are expected to compete in 31 different boat classes. Click here for the complete list of entries.

The U23 men’s single sculls has the most entries with 13, including Charles Boldt, who raced the U19 single at the 2022 World Rowing Under 19 Championships. 

Craftsbury Green Racing Project's Cillian Mullen is looking to earn a place on the under 23 national team in the women's single sculls. The Washington rower finished fourth in the U19 women's quadruple sculls at the 2022 U19 championships.

Sam Melvin will compete in the men’s lightweight single hoping to return to the world championships. Melvin placed seventh in this event at last year’s world championships and won the U23 lightweight men’s single event in 2019. Melvin was a member of the lightweight men’s double who won Olympic trials this past April.

Rowing for Brophy College Preparatory School, Ian O’Riley is looking to win the U19 men’s single sculls event. O’Riley won the event at the 2024 Youth National Championships by over 5.8 seconds. 

Fresh off back-to-back victories in the women’s youth single at USRowing’s Beach Sprint Trials and the 2024 USRowing Youth National Championships, Next Level Rowing's Annelise Hahl is looking to return to another world championships. Hahl represented the U.S last year at both the U19 World Championships and the Beach Sprints Finals, where she won silver in the junior single sculls event. 

RowAmerica Rye's Lucas Liow and George Dolce, who were the stern pair of the gold medal winning men’s eight at this year’s youth nationals, will be racing to make the U19 team in the pair at this week's trials. 

The U19 women’s double sculls event features the winners of this year’s youth national championships, River City Rowing Club’s Sumner Kerr and Emily Costa. Kerr has the opportunity to make her second U19 national team. She finished fifth in the women’s quadruple sculls at last year’s U19 world championships. 

RowBuffalo’s Nathaniel Sass won the gold medal in the lightweight men's pair at the 2022 World Rowing Under 23 Championships. This year, Sass is partnering with Collin Hay for the lightweight men’s pair event. 

Community Rowing Inc. entered two PR2 men’s single sculls. Christopher Campbell and James Duncan will go head to head to see who will make their first U.S. Para National Team. 

Trials racing begins Friday at 8 a.m. with time trials. Finals will be held Saturday and Sunday starting at 8:00 a.m.

The 2024 U19, U23, and Senior National Team World Rowing Championships will be held August 18-25 in St. Catherines, Canada.
