USA to Host 2028 World Rowing Championships
USRowing is proud to announce that Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida has been selected to host the 2028 World Rowing Championships also known as “Mega-Worlds”, welcoming Senior, Para, Under 23, and Under 19 athletes from around the world. For the first time in U.S. rowing history, all three major events will take place in the same year: the Olympics in July, followed by the World Championships and Paralympics in August 2028.
The 2028 World Rowing Championships will shine a spotlight on American rowing at all levels. For U.S. athletes, competing at home offers the unique opportunity to race on familiar waters while experiencing world-class competition.
“We are thrilled to welcome the world back to Nathan Benderson Park for the 2028 World Rowing Championships,” said Amanda Kraus, Chief Executive Officer of USRowing. “When Sarasota hosted this incredible event in 2017, it left a lasting legacy for rowing in the United States. To have the opportunity to once again showcase this premier venue, celebrate our athletes on the Senior, Para, U23, and U19 teams, and inspire the next generation of rowers is truly special. We look forward to the profound impact these events will have on our community and the global rowing family, making 2028 an unforgettable championship year..”
The combined championships are expected to generate wide-reaching benefits. Economically, Sarasota, Florida will see a significant boost from international visitors, teams, and fans. The event will help inspire local communities, rowing clubs, and schools, hopefully leaving a legacy of increased participation and interest in the sport. With the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the timing of the championships provides an ideal platform to showcase U.S. rowing on the world stage.
To deliver a successful event, USRowing will partner with World Rowing and local organizers to ensure the highest standards in competition venues, logistics, and athlete services.
