USRowing Announces 2021 Under 19 National Team Selection Camp Invitees

USRowing is pleased to announce that the following athletes have been selected to participate in the USRowing Under 19 National Team Selection Camps this summer. The camps are currently underway in Chula Vista, Calif.

Camp invitees will be competing for spots on USRowing's Under 19 National Team in the men's and women's four, four with coxswain, quadruple sculls and eight that will represent the U.S. at the 2021 World Rowing Junior Championships August 11-15 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Under the overall direction of USRowing Junior National Team System Head Coach Casey Galvanek, Eric Gehrke will serve as the men's lead coach for Plovdiv, while Caitlin McClain will serve as the women's lead coach. Supporting Gehrke on the men's side will be boat coaches Chris Register, Steve McCarthy and Andrew Hess, while Gordon Getsinger, Mike Wallin and Asiya Mahmud will work with McClain as the women's boat coaches.

Those athletes not selected to race at the world championships will continue their training in two additional groups. While COVID-19 caused the cancellation of the 2021 CanAmMex, an annual collaborative camp between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico that brings together rowers for a week of training culminating in a regatta, USRowing still will select a 2021 CanAmMex squad that now will race at the USRowing Summer National Championships July 13-18 in Camden, N.J.

The 2021 Selection Development Camp squad, which includes athletes who have eligibility for future U19 national teams, also will race at the USRowing Summer National Championships in New Jersey.

Zohar Abramovitz is serving as the selection development women's head coach, with Trevor Michelson as the selection development men's head coach. For CanAmMex, Chris Register and Richard Hull will serve as the men's and women's head coaches, respectively. Maddox Castle and Abbie Young will assist both the CanAmMex and selection development head coaches on the men's and women's sides, respectively.
