USRowing Opens Public Comment Period for 2027 U19 and U23 National Team Selection Procedures

Public comment period runs through October 28; U19 informational webinar scheduled for October 27

USRowing has published the proposed 2027 U19 and U23 National Team Selection Procedures for public comment. Athletes, coaches, and members of the rowing community are encouraged to review the procedures and submit feedback during the two-week comment period, which will close on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

The 2027 U23 Selection Procedures remain largely consistent with the 2026 structure, with no major changes proposed. USRowing welcomes feedback before the procedures are finalized.

The 2027 U19 Selection Procedures include one significant change to the selection process for the men's and women's single sculls (1x) and pairs (2-). Previously contested at a separate trials event following the USRowing Youth National Championships, these events would be selected through results at the 2027 USRowing Youth National Championships.

No changes will be made to the Youth National Championships competition format to accommodate this selection process. Instead, the highest-placing U19-eligible athletes or crews in the 1x and 2- events would earn selection to the U19 National Team, subject to the eligibility and performance requirements outlined in the procedures.

The change is intended to reduce the financial and logistical burden of conducting a separate trials event, address historically low participation, and create a more accessible pathway to international competition in these boat classes. Prior to submitting comments regarding this change, we recommend that individuals attend the planned webinar on October 27, 2026, which will highlight the reasoning behind the change.

U19 Selection Procedures Webinar

USRowing will host an informational webinar on Tuesday, October 27, at 8:00 p.m. ET, to review the proposed U19 Selection Procedures, explain the rationale behind the changes, and answer questions from athletes, coaches, and families. The webinar will be recorded and posted prior to the end of the comment period on Wednesday, October 28. Register for the October 27 webinar.

The rowing community is encouraged to review both sets of proposed procedures and provide feedback before the October 28 deadline.
