The U.S. rowing community is encouraged to review these documents for details, data, and context regarding the organization’s performance in 2025. Combined, these materials offer an opportunity to see a holistic picture of USRowing’s execution of our tenets of Performance, Experience, Community, and Operations last year. 

USRowing Board Chair Robert Zagunis, and Interim CEO Peter Roby penned a joint letter (also in the 2025 Annual Report) highlighting some of the achievements accomplished last year.

Dear U.S. Rowing Community,

USRowing’s 2025 was defined by cultivating momentum - not only in successes on the water, but through development within and across every level of our organization. We strengthened our feedback mechanisms, creating more opportunities to gain valuable input from our members and ensure their voices shape the future of our sport. As the first year in a home-games Olympic and Paralympic cycle, we invested in our athletes, members, clubs, and communities and laid the foundation for sustainable success. Our tenets of Performance, Experience, and Community ground our organization’s efforts in the journey toward the LA28 Games and beyond.

PERFORMANCE: The 2025 season demonstrated the strength and depth of the U.S. High Performance system. Across the U19, U23, Senior, Para, and Coastal programs, U.S. athletes earned 19 international medals, including eight World Championship golds, proving that the strategic direction of High Performance is yielding podium-level results at every level. We were proud to see new historic victories, including the first-ever U.S. World Championship title in the U23 Men's Four, as well as the continued legacy of success in Beach Sprints – medaling at every World Finals since the discipline's introduction in 2019. Beyond international competition, we expanded athlete development through Pathways programming, increased Para and Coastal rowing opportunities, and committed to developing training centers, including the groundbreaking of the Caspersen expansion project —investments that will strengthen our High Performance system as we build towards LA28 and Brisbane 2032.

EXPERIENCE: Delivering exceptional experiences for our members remains central to everything we do. In 2025, USRowing hosted some of the largest and most successful events in our history while introducing innovative new competition opportunities. RowFest National Championships was honored as the Best New Sports Event by SportsTravel magazine, and the inaugural International Rowing Challenge welcomed 108 athletes from four countries for a new U19 high-performance competition. Our Youth National Championships continued to grow, welcoming more than 11,000 athletes, coaches, families, and supporters daily. We also strengthened engagement with our referee community through nationwide listening sessions, as well as enhanced event safety, education, and Safe Sport initiatives. These efforts culminated in the safest competition year in the 2022-2025 period.

COMMUNITY: Building a stronger, more connected rowing community remained a priority throughout the year, seen in matching record highs of average annual membership of over 77,000 and hosting the most sanctioned head race, coastal, and indoor regattas in the organization’s history. We launched Voices in Rowing to create an ongoing dialogue with our members while continuing to expand learning and leadership opportunities across the sport. The Launch surpassed 3,700 courses completed in the calendar year, and we awarded more than $200,000 in athlete scholarships along with $80,000 in United We Row grants benefiting 16 organizations. We were honored to receive the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee's NGB Choice Award for the United We Row Grants Program for the second consecutive time, recognizing its national impact in advancing inclusion and expanding access to rowing.

OPERATING PERFORMANCE: Behind every successful season is a strong and sustainable organization. In 2025, USRowing achieved its third consecutive operating surplus, finishing the year with a $968,000 surplus—the strongest operating performance since 2015. We also achieved another record year of philanthropy by reaching over $8M in contributions, while securing additional gifts towards the Caspersen Boathouse expansion, multi-year naming rights, and seed gifts for two endowments. 2025 efforts have reinforced our ability to serve members in the present while positioning USRowing to remain financially resilient, operationally sound, and fiscally prepared for the future. In part, we do rely on supporters and donors to expand these capabilities, and this will become even more important as we grow into this future. 

As we look to the future, we do so with a discerning lens. There are challenges, and we intend to transform them into opportunities that strengthen the sport, re-envision the value we offer to members, and deliver podium-level performances in international competition.

To our athletes, coaches, referees, regatta directors, volunteers, donors, partners, clubs, and members: we value your voices, and thank you for your unwavering commitment to rowing and for the role each of you plays in helping our community thrive.

The momentum we've built together is only the beginning, and we look forward to continuing that progress alongside our entire rowing community.
