USRowing Youth Series 2021: Week 2
USRowing's Youth Series, which kicked off last weekend with the Central Youth Championships, continues this weekend with the 2021 USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships and 2021 USRowing Southeast Youth Championships.
At the Central Youth Championships in Oklahoma City, Texas Rowing Center took home the overall, men's and women's points trophies, while Founders Rowing won the efficiency trophy.
"Coming off a successful regatta in Oklahoma City, we're excited to provide two more championship-level racing opportunities for our athletes in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions," said James Rawson, USRowing Director of Events. "We look forward to some great racing this weekend at two terrific venues. As always, we are striving to provide as safe a competition environment as possible and would like to thank everyone for following the COVID protocols in place for these events."
Hosted by Princeton National Rowing Association, the Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships will feature nearly 1,200 athletes and 335 boats from 45 clubs. The crews will race for medals across 34 events at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. PNRA/Mercer has the most entries with 32, while St. Joseph's Preparatory School has 19 entries.
The Southeast Youth Championships will be held on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The regatta has nearly 1,400 athletes and 385 boats from 43 clubs scheduled to race across 38 events. Sarasota Crew leads the way with 46 entries, while Atlanta Junior Rowing Association has 21 entries. With the Southwest Youth Championships being cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, Redwood Scullers/PACJC will be making the journey from California with 22 crews.
Unlike previous years, this year's regional youth championships will not serve as automatic qualifiers for the 2021 USRowing Youth National Regatta due to COVID. But, they do serve as an opportunity for crews to race for regional titles, lay down some fast times and start their final preparations for the upcoming national regatta in Sarasota.
The 2021 USRowing Youth National Regatta will be held in partnership with Visit Sarasota County and the Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates (SANCA) on June 10-13 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla.
The USRowing Youth Series continues next weekend with the USRowing Northeast Youth Championships. The USRowing Northwest Youth Championships is scheduled for the weekend of May 21-23.
As always, USRowing's number one priority is to run a safe regatta. USRowing has a robust COVID risk mitigation plan in place for all of its Youth Series Regattas in order to try to provide as safe of a competition environment as possible for our athletes, coaches, referees, volunteers, staff, supporters, and other attendees.
