Women’s Quad with Coxswain Finishes Fourth at World Rowing Coastal Championships


The U.S. finished fourth in the women's quadruple sculls with coxswain, highlighting Sunday's racing at the 2022 World Rowing Coastal Championships in Saundersfoot, Great Britain.

The U.S. just missed winning a medal in the women's quad, finishing fourth and 10th in the A final. Representing Next Level Rowing, the USA2 crew of Jillian Zeiff, Morgan Hummel, Jeni Sorli, Olivia Farrar, and coxswain Coral Kasden finished 29 seconds behind the third-place Irish crew from Castletownshend Rowing Club. Spain's RCMD Málaga won the gold medal in a 21:08.68, with New Zealand's Hawkes Bay crew finishing second in a 21:32.42. Castletownshend took home the bronze medal in a 23:01.43, with the USA2 boat crossing in a 23:30.71. Next Level Rowing's USA1 crew of Christine Cavallo, Dani Hansen, Brooke Wolford, Julia Lindsay, and coxswain Peter Choi finished 10th, covering the course in a 26:05.83.

In the men's quadruple sculls with coxswain, U.S. boats finished eighth and 12th in the A final. The Next Level Rowing crew of Ben Booth, Marc Oria, Chris Bak, Kory Rogers, and Peter Choi, which won yesterday's heat, finished eighth in today's final. The crew clocked a 21:22.22 to finish a little less than a minute off the medal pace. Great Britain's UL Tyrian Club won the race in a 19:03.25, with Italy's Circolo Canottieri Saturnia A.S.D. taking second in a 19:52.65. Gravelines Aviron France won the bronze medal in a 20:28.52. The New Orleans Rowing Club entry of John Huppi, Philip Hoyle, William Meeker, Alex Delsordo, and Whitney Powell finished with a time of 22:01.64.

Next Level Rowing's Cameron Kumagai and Cassidy Norton finished 12th in the A final of the mixed double sculls. Kumagai and Norton finished with a time of 24:04.38. Crews from Spain took the top two spots, with the boat from Remo Torrevieja winning the race in a 21:46.63. RCMD Málaga finished second in a 22:15.60, just 0.09 seconds ahead of Ireland's Loughros & Killorglin Rowing Club.

In the women's double sculls, Bair Island Aquatic Center's Amanda Hawkins and Athena Bradley finished ninth in the B final for a 25th-place finish overall. Hawkins and Bradley finished the course in a 51:28.98. Great Britain's Jersey Rowing Club duo of Taye Le Monnier and Kirsten West won the B final in a 34:47.29.

In total, more than 540 rowers in 235 boats from 23 countries competed in Wales. The U.S. will have nine crews racing in next week's 2022 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals in Saundersfoot.
