A non-member organization that carries insurance that meets USRowing’s requirements and is interested in attending a sanctioned regatta can purchase a Regatta Pass Lite to satisfy the requirement for organizational membership.
$250
A non-member organization that does not carry its own insurance and is interested in attending sanctioned regattas can purchase a Regatta Pass to meet the requirement for organizational membership.
Regatta Pass (insurance included) and Regatta Pass Lite (insurance not included) are temporary organizational memberships with USRowing. They are valid only for the duration of a selected USRowing sanctioned regatta. Over 200 crews purchase one or more Regatta Passes annually, including but not limited to alumni teams at fall head races and scholastic and collegiate crews attending a limited number of sanctioned regattas. Teams purchasing a Regatta Pass or Regatta Pass Lite must select which sanctioned regatta the pass will be applied to at the time of purchase.
A Regatta Pass costs $250 per regatta. It provides organizations with general liability insurance as well as sexual abuse and molestation insurance coverage for the duration of the event on a primary basis for groups not already carrying year-round coverage. If a team already carries coverage, the insurance provided by a Regatta Pass is secondary. It does not cover practice that is not sanctioned by the regatta, and practice that is not at the regatta site (i.e., any practice at home before traveling the regatta – it is only for the regatta week or weekend).
IMPORTANT: The Regatta Pass and Regatta Pass Lite do not cover the individual membership requirement. They are temporary organizational memberships for teams that choose not to be year-round USRowing members.
A Regatta Pass Lite costs $100 per regatta. It does not provide organizations with any form of insurance coverage.
The fee associated with this pass covers administrative expenses related to verifying the Certificate of Insurance, platform fees, and regatta compliance checks.
IMPORTANT: The Regatta Pass and Regatta Pass Lite do not cover the individual membership requirement. They are temporary organizational memberships for teams that choose not to be year-round USRowing members.
If you are interested in the Regatta Pass Lite option before it becomes available on the Member Portal in May 2025, please complete the application form here.
A Regatta Pass (insurance included) and Regatta Pass Lite (insurance not included) are bought by a team that does not need year-round organizational membership. This includes, but is not limited to, teams that attend a small number of USRowing sanctioned regattas or alumni teams that only form to race at a single regatta.
Yes, the number of Regatta Passes (insurance included) and Regatta Pass Lites (insurance not included) purchased by a team is limited to two per organization, per year. For example, alumni groups in different regions of the country may purchase two over the course of the year to attend various regattas. However, we want to emphasize that any time between two Regatta Passes - and between two regattas - would not be covered by USRowing’s insurance included with a Regatta Pass.
Regatta Pass and Regatta Pass Lite are temporary memberships with annual purchase limits per organization. They are designed for clubs and crews that rarely compete in sanctioned regattas.
Organizations who wish to request an exception to the two-pass limit may email members@usrowing.org.
Regatta Pass Lite organizations must carry their own insurance and submit a Certificate of Insurance (COI) that meets USRowing requirements. Click here to find the COI form and a list of requirements.
A single Regatta Pass or Regatta Pass Lite covers up to 12 entries for a single sanctioned regatta. If an organization has circumstances that may warrant special accommodation, it can request them by contacting members@usrowing.org.
The limit is set to 12 entries per sanctioned regatta, as historical data shows that this is the typical high-end number of entries most organizations submit to a single regatta.
To compete at a sanctioned event, an individual must:
USRowing must pay a flat rate per participant per year to our insurance carrier, regardless of the number of events that a participant partakes in. Additionally, registration supports data and waiver collection that is used to achieve compliance with the U.S. Center for SafeSport, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and our insurance carrier.
Individuals with Basic membership benefit year-round from exclusive member discounts, access to race results history, comprehensive, sport-specific general liability coverage, access to participate in over 200 sanctioned regattas and all USRowing indoor regattas, 30+ free USRowing education and enrichment courses, free SafeSport training, and youth rowers gain free access to the NCSA collegiate recruiting platform.
Individuals with Championship membership automatically have access to the benefits associated with Basic membership, and can also take advantage of additional insurance coverage, extra learning and development opportunities, and more competitive on-water racing throughout the year.

USRowing’s member organization policies apply only at times when organizational membership is active. For Regatta Pass holders specifically, that active period is for the duration of the sanctioned regatta, and therefore USRowing policies apply only as implemented by and while attending the regatta. The 2025 Organizational Member Agreement can be found here.
Individual member policies do apply to individuals for the duration of their membership. The 2025 Individual Member Agreement can be found here.
Specific to coaches who are an individual member, but their organization is a regatta pass holder, the year-round requirement of coaching certification does not apply. However, should this coach wish to be formally recognized as a coach at a sanctioned regatta, they would need to complete certification. Only certified coaches will be able to access restricted athlete-only areas at a sanctioned regatta. This assumes the regatta has an athlete only area and that it monitors compliance and access using RegattaCentral. This may include docks and fenced or otherwise designated athlete-only spaces.
