Personal

Andrew enjoys biking, kitesurfing, reading, skiing, and hanging with his five siblings. He broke his neck and suffered a spinal cord injury when he was 16 that left him paralyzed from the neck down. He said he has been lucky to have had enough recovery to come back to rowing as an adaptive sculler. Andrew is the fifth of six kids and loves making people laugh. His three older brothers and both parents rowed in high school and college. He lists one of his personal heroes as John Offut, a dear family friend who always preached the benefits of movement and exercise. An avid rower and cyclist, he loved teaching, including, and inspiring others. After Andrews injury, Offut worked to help Andrew find ways to adapt the sports and activities that he loved. Offut passed away while cycling in 2020. Andrew is currently working with his brother on an AI startup. He enjoys traveling to Lake Joseph in Ontario, Canada. Andrews sister is a two-time Olympian in Alpine Skiing, and during the Beijing Olympics, she came to the bottom of the hill and Andrew and his family were able to talk with her via Facetime as no spectators could attend. Andrew said it was a very special moment for all of them. Andrew recently enjoyed watching the Tour de France Netflix show. He is a big fan of biographies and recently finished a biography on Herbert Hoover. Despite common criticisms, Hoover was inspired by his drive to do each task to the best of his ability no matter the scale. Andrew is a huge believer that attitude can have a considerable effect on outcome.
