Avery is set to attend the University of Alabama where she will study nutrition science. She was named to the USRowing Honor Roll. She enjoys crocheting, reading and journaling, and classical music concerts. She is a vegan. Avery competed in cross-country, soccer, and basketball until her sophomore year, when she found rowing. She did Science Olympiad for 6 years through middle and high school. After a senior from her high school basketball team committed to rowing in college, she made sure to watch at the Olympics that year in Tokyo. She remembers watching Gevvie Stone race and the story they showed of her and her family, and after that she decided she wanted to try it out for real, instead of just occasionally erging at the rec center. She loves Lindsay Dare-Shoop. She had the privilege of meeting her and hearing about her life story last year; she is such an inspiring person and a true role model. Her book, which she has a signed copy of, just makes me appreciate this sport and my teammates on another level. She cannot praise her enough. Avery’s goal is either to become a sports nutritionist on the collegiate or professional level, or to further my education into toxicology. Her all time favorite movie is Lego Batman. Her favorite musicians are Weyes Blood, The Strokes and a great local band called Guiche. She is currently reading The Matrix by Lauren Groff.
