Media Guidelines

CREDENTIAL PROCESS
- Media members may apply for USRowing owned regatta and U.S. National Team qualifying event credentials here.
- Credential applications must be submitted no later than 72 hours from the first day of each regatta and are only for media outlets that need racing day access to produce editorial coverage, not to watch the regatta.
- This includes newspapers, TV, radio and legitimate digital websites that produce consistent and professional content adhering to accepted journalistic principles. USRowing does not provide credentials for personal social media channel coverage unless previously discussed and approved by the Marketing and Communications Team.
- Where credentials and space in key press areas such as docks and launches is limited, priority will be given to those working on a deadline.
- Applications from freelance writers, photographers or videographers must come from a direct supervisor validating professional and editorial need for media access. All applications using a personal email address, such as Gmail or Hotmail, must provide validation from their outlet.
- Applying for a credential does not guarantee access. Confirmation will be sent to those who are approved.
- Events that feature youth athletes will require Safesport agreement and an acknowledgement of the access points for media.
Media Attire
- While on assignment at either training or race day, media is expected to dress professionally when interviewing staff, athletes and coaches.
- Failure to comply may result in loss of credential
Professionalism
- Media members may not use credential for preferential access, such as autographs, photographs or personal requests.
- Access given to photographers is for outlet coverage/usage; Media members are not permitted to tag players/staff on personal social media channels. (Outlets may, and are encouraged to, credit photographers on the outlet's owned-and-operated channels.)
- Violation will result in immediate loss of credentials for any future events that year.
Non-Access Area Reporting
- Media members may only report on or capture information during designated media areas and media access times
- Designated areas may be specified per regatta. You will be notified by USRowing personnel of designated areas for each event.
- Designated areas include: boathouse, media space, and the public area
- Restricted areas include, but are not limited to: parking lots, trailer areas, docks, specified athlete and coach areas.
- Request to capture content in these areas may be submitted to the Marketing and Communications Team no later than 24 hours prior to requested access
- Reporting on any information captured outside of these times/area may result in loss of credential.
