2022 Senior National Team Trials 2 Gets Underway Monday

USRowing will be selecting two boats – the women's single sculls and men's double sculls – to the 2022 Senior National Team starting Monday at the 2022 Senior National Team Trials 2 on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. The winners will earn the right to represent the U.S. at the 2022 World Rowing Championships September 18-25 in Racice, Czech Republic. In the women's single sculls, Kara Kohler (Clayton, Calif./University of California, Berkeley/Texas Rowing Center High Performance) is one of five scullers entered in the event. A two-time Olympian and the 2019 World Rowing Championships' bronze medalist in the single, Kohler won the National Selection Regatta back in March but did not race the event at World Rowing Cup 2 in Poznan, Poland, deciding to concentrate on the double sculls instead. Kohler jumped back into the single at the 2022 Henley Royal Regatta, winning The Princess Royal Challenge Cup. Lauren O'Connor (Belleville, Wis./University of Wisconsin/ARION), who finished second in the single and won the women's double sculls at the 2022 USRowing Summer National Championships, also is scheduled to race, as is teammate Hannah Paynter (Lyme, Conn./Princeton University/ARION), who raced the women's quadruple sculls at the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships. The men's double sculls event has six entries. The Penn Athletic Club/California Rowing Club composite crew includes Thomas Phifer (New York, N.Y./Middlebury College/ Penn Athletic Club) and Sorin Koszyk (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Cornell University/California Rowing Club). Phifer was part of the 2017 Senior National Team, while Koszyk won the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Rowing in the quadruple sculls last year before racing in the 2021 World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta. Eliot Putnam (Littleton, Mass./Cornell University/Penn Athletic Club), who was boatmates with Koszyk in the quad last year, will be rowing with Greg Davis (Hillsborough, Calif./Cornell University/New York Athletic Club) at the trials. Will Legenzowski (Vista, N.Y./Brown University/Koven Training Center) stroked the U.S. men's eight to a silver medal just over a week ago at the 2022 World Rowing Under 23 Championships. He will race with Liam Galloway (Ridgefield, Conn./Yale University/Koven Training Center) this week. Racing gets underway with time trials Monday at 8 a.m. EDT. Finals will be held Tuesday starting at 8 a.m. EDT. Heat sheets and results will be available on HereNow.com. USRowing would like to thank Filippi Lido, the Official Boat Supplier for the U.S. Senior, Under 23, and Para-Rowing National Teams. Under the agreement, Filippi is providing USRowing a fleet of boats for international competitions including the World Rowing Cup regattas, World Rowing Under 23 Championships, World Rowing Championships, Olympic Games, and Paralympic Games, as well as a domestic training fleet for the USRowing Training Center.
