Finals Set at 2022 Senior National Team Trials 2


Finals are now set at the 2022 Senior National Team Trials 2 following Monday's time trials on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J.

Two boats – the women's single sculls and men's double sculls – will be selected during the two-day regatta, with the winners of tomorrow's finals earning the right to represent the U.S. at the 2022 World Rowing Championships September 18-25 in Racice, Czech Republic.

In the men's double sculls, Eliot Putnam (Littleton, Mass./Cornell University/Penn Athletic Club), who won the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Rowing in the quadruple sculls last year before racing in the 2021 World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta, and partner Greg Davis (Hillsborough, Calif./Cornell University/New York Athletic Club) won the time trial by nearly four seconds, crossing the finish line in a 6:04.74. Davis is a three-time under 23 national team member looking to make his first senior team. Koven Training Center's Will Legenzowski (Vista, N.Y./Brown University/Koven Training Center), who stroked the U.S. men's eight to a silver medal just over a week ago at the 2022 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, and Liam Galloway (Ridgefield, Conn./Yale University/Koven Training Center) finished second in a 6:08.65, with the Penn Athletic Club/California Rowing Club composite crew of Thomas Phifer (New York, N.Y./Middlebury College/ Penn Athletic Club) and Sorin Koszyk (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich./Cornell University/California Rowing Club) finishing third in a 6:11.59. Phifer was part of the 2017 Senior National Team, while Koszyk rowed with Putnam in the quad in 2021.

In the women's single sculls, Kara Kohler (Clayton, Calif./University of California, Berkeley/Texas Rowing Center High Performance) won the time trial by more than eight seconds to earn the top seed in tomorrow's final. Kohler, a two-time Olympian and the 2019 World Rowing Championships' bronze medalist in the single, finished with a time of 7:15.75. Lauren O'Connor (Belleville, Wis./University of Wisconsin/ARION), who finished second in the single and won the women's double sculls at the 2022 USRowing Summer National Championships, recorded the second fastest time of the morning, crossing in a 7:23.80. Hannah Paynter (Lyme, Conn./Princeton University/ARION), who raced the women's quadruple sculls at the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, finished third in a 7:35.60.
