2023 USRowing Youth Series – Week 4 Preview


The road to the 2023 USRowing Youth National Championships concludes this weekend with the final qualification regatta – the 2023 New England Interscholastic Rowing Championships – taking place in Worcester, Mass.

More than 260 crews from 56 clubs are already scheduled to race May 27 on Lake Quinsigamond with the entry deadline closing on Friday. As of Tuesday morning, the women's high school varsity four with coxswain led the way with 27 entries. The men's high school varsity eight had 25 entries. Last year, Deerfield Academy Crew won the men's and women's varsity fours, while Phillips Exeter Academy won the women's varsity eight and Brunswick School won the men's varsity eight.

Last weekend, three youth nationals' qualification regattas took place.

More than 1,300 athletes and 600 boats raced at the 2023 USRowing Northwest Youth Championships on Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, Wash. Sammamish Rowing Association took home the overall points trophy and the men's points trophy, while Holy Names Academy won the women's points trophy. Sammamish also won the Division I trophy for clubs with more than 40 athletes. Lake Oswego Community Rowing won the Division II trophy (15-39 athletes), and Burton Beach Rowing won the Division III trophy (14 or fewer athletes).

The 2023 USRowing Northeast Youth Championships featured more than 1,800 athletes and 480 boats racing on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. Greenwich Crew won the overall, men's, women's, and novice points trophies, with Maritime Rowing Club taking the sculling points trophy.

The 2023 Midwest Junior Rowing Championships featured 500 crews from 39 clubs racing on Harsha Lake in Bethel, Ohio. Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club won the women's sweep points trophy, with Chicago Rowing Foundation taking the men's sweep points trophy. Y Quad Cities Rowing won the women's sculling trophy, with Camp Randall Rowing Club taking the men's sculling trophy.

Presented by Broadridge Financial Solutions Inc., the 2023 USRowing Youth National Championships will be held in partnership with Visit Sarasota County and the Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy from June 8-11 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla. Athletes must qualify for the event through one of 12 qualification regattas.

The nation's premier rowing venue, Nathan Benderson Park has hosted numerous national and international rowing events including the 2022 USRowing Youth National Championships.
