Coach Highlight - Marc Oria


Marc Oria is head coach of Great Miami Crew, based in Hamilton, Ohio. With the goal to create a successful rowing program, he began a new, exciting project, working on the development of young athletes. Originally from Barcelona, Spain, he started rowing at the Reial Club Maritim de Barcelona, where he earned numerous medals at regional and national championships. From 1998 to 2007, Oria rowed on the Catalunya National Team and, from 1999 to 2002, the Spanish National Team. He now rows for Cincinnati Rowing Club and has earned several medals at USRowing Masters National Championships.

His coaching career started in 2001 as an instructor, then director and head coach at the Reial Club Maritim de Barcelona until 2008. From 2010 to 2012, he coached at Club Rem Badalona. He coached the Catalunya National Team in 2006 and several of his athletes medaled at the World Rowing Junior Championships and World Rowing Championships, while some went on to become finalists at the 2016 Olympic Games.

Oria and his family moved to Cincinnati in 2013 and he served as assistant coach for the University of Cincinnati's varsity women's team in 2016 and as a head coach 2017 to 2019. Under his leadership, the team earned medals every year at ACRA, winning the Small Boat Trophy three years in a row.

Continuing to advance his career as a high-performance rowing coach, Oria acts as assistant coach to Reilly Dampeer at the High Performance Center in Oklahoma City.

Professionally, he graduated with a degree in Biological Science from the University of Barcelona and earned his PhD in Neuroscience from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He is also currently a Research Faculty at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and a leading expert in congenital malformations.
