Davison, Kohler Advance on Thursday at 2022 Henley Royal Regatta

The first two U.S. national boats hit the River Thames course on Thursday at the 2022 Henley Royal Regatta, with both single scullers advancing to the next round of racing in The Diamond Sculls Challenge and The Princess Royal Challenge Cup, respectively.

Coming off a bronze-medal performance in the men's single sculls at World Rowing Cup II in Poznan, Poland, Ben Davison (Inverness, Fla./University of Washington/California Rowing Club) won his opening round race of The Diamond Sculls Challenge by two lengths over Poland's Maciej Zawojski. Davison, who will be representing the U.S. in the men's single sculls at the 2022 World Rowing Championships this September, finished with a time of 8.07. He will take on Rowing Australia's David Bartholot in the next round.

After winning bronze in Poznan in the women's double sculls, two-time Olympian Kara Kohler (Clayton, Calif./University of California, Berkeley/Texas Rowing Center) is back in the single at Henley, racing in The Princess Royal Challenge Cup. Kohler, a 2019 World Rowing Championships' bronze medalist in the single, won her opening round race over Cambridge University's Brigid Kennedy, a five-time U.S. Under 23 National Team member. Kohler won in a time of 9.12, finishing 4.5 lengths ahead of Kennedy. Kohler, who will be racing in the women's double sculls at this year's world championships, will face Leicester Rowing Club's Lauren Henry in the next round. Henry was the runner-up in the event at last year's Henley Royal Regatta.

Four more U.S. national boats will hit the Henley course for the first time on Friday. In total, USRowing has eight national boats racing this week.

In addition to the national boats, many other crews based in the United States from junior, collegiate, and club programs also are racing at Henley this week. Preliminary round racing continues Friday, with semifinals taking place on Saturday and finals taking place on Sunday. The regatta features more than 300 head-to-head races in categories ranging from junior to open.

Event coverage is available on the Henley Royal Regatta website and on USRowing.org. Results will be available on the Henley website and live streaming will be available on the Henley Royal Regatta YouTube Channel.
