Finals Set for Women’s Pair at Third 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Rowing

Racing for the final two spots on the Olympic rowing team got underway Friday morning with the time trial of the women's pair at the third round of 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Rowing in West Windsor, N.J.

With the five camp-selected boats being announced later today, eight of the nine U.S. boats racing at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 have been set. Only the women's pair still needs to be finalized.

In today's time trial, Olympic veterans Tracy Eisser (Fair Lawn, N.J./Cornell University) and Megan Kalmoe (St. Croix Falls, Wis./University of Washington), who finished fourth in the event at the 2019 World Rowing Championships to qualify the U.S. boat for Tokyo, clocked the fastest time of the morning. Eisser and Kalmoe crossed the line with a time of 6:47.95.

The duo, which won a silver medal at the 2017 World Rowing Championships, is back together for the trials, trying to stake claim to the spots they secured for Team USA nearly two years ago. Kalmoe, a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist in the women's quadruple sculls, is looking to make her fourth Olympic team, while Eisser, a four-time world championships' medalist, is looking to make her second Olympic team.

With all four boats advancing to the final, the Craftsbury/USRowing Training Center-Princeton composite crew of Jenifer Forbes (Baltimore, Md/Northeastern University) and Erin Boxberger (Overland Park, Kan./University of Notre Dame) finished second with a time of 7:03.16. Forbes was a member of the 2019 Pan American Games Team, while Boxberger won a gold medal in the women's four at the 2018 World Rowing Championships.

Three-time Olympic medalist Caryn Davies (Ithaca, N.Y./Harvard University) and her partner Allyson Baker (North Royalton, Ohio/The Ohio State University) finished third, followed by the crew of Molly Bruggeman (Dayton, Ohio/University of Notre Dame) and Vicki Opitz (Middleton, Wis./University of Wisconsin).

The final is scheduled to take place Saturday at 8 a.m., with the winner qualifying for Tokyo.
