Oak Ridge to Host 2021 USRowing Masters National Championships
USRowing is excited to announce that the 2021 USRowing Masters National Championships will be held on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Hosted by Oak Ridge Rowing Association, the event will take place August 12-15.
"We're looking forward to offering the opportunity for our masters rowers to get back on the water at the USRowing Masters National Championships later this summer," said USRowing Director of Events James Rawson. "Oak Ridge is a beloved racing venue, and we're thrilled to be working with them for another national championship regatta. As always, our number one priority will be to run a safe regatta. We will be putting COVID protocols in place and will announce these measures closer to the event."
Founded in 1978, Oak Ridge Rowing Association fulfills the mission to promote the sport of rowing in Oak Ridge and East Tennessee. ORRA is home to the Atomic juniors and masters rowing teams. The calm and protected waters of Melton Hill Lake provide a perfect venue for championship regattas and an enviable location for spring training. Surrounded by the mountain ridges that give Oak Ridge her name, there are more than 30 miles of well-sheltered and calm water.
Oak Ridge has hosted numerous USRowing national championship regattas over the years including the 2017 USRowing Masters National Championships.
USRowing's top priority is to run a safe regatta, and COVID-19 adds a new layer of planning to help ensure the safety of our athletes, coaches, referees, volunteers, staff, supporters, and other attendees. As the event gets closer, USRowing will be rolling out a robust COVID risk mitigation plan for this year's masters nationals. With input from USRowing's medical commission, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, World Rowing, as well as CDC and WHO guidelines, our COVID Working Group is developing these protocols in order to provide as safe a competition environment as possible.
