Qualification for the 2023 USRowing Youth National Championships Gets Underway This Weekend
The road to the 2023 USRowing Youth National Championships begins this weekend as more than 4,500 athletes are scheduled to race at three qualification regattas, vying for spots in the United States' premier youth rowing event.
For the first time, USRowing will be live streaming all of its regional youth championships leading up to youth nationals. Head to the USRowing YouTube Channel for all the live streaming starting this Friday.
More than 1,700 rowers are scheduled to race at the 2023 USRowing Southwest Youth Championships on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The regatta will be held May 5-7 and will feature more than 600 crews from 36 clubs racing for titles in nearly 50 events. Norcal Crew leads the way in terms of team entries with 45 boats making the drive from Redwood City, Calif., while the women's youth double sculls has the most event entries with 27 crews scheduled to race.
The 2023 USRowing Central Youth Championships will take place May 6-7 on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City's Boathouse District. This year's regatta will feature more than 800 athletes competing in 318 boats for titles in more than 40 events. Texas Rowing Center has the most entries with 37 boats scheduled to compete in Oklahoma. Like the Southwest, the women's youth double sculls has the most entries with 18 boats in the field.
The 2023 Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association City Championships also will take place on May 6-7 on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa. Entries for the City Championships close on Wednesday night. Crews will be competing for medals in 48 events, with qualification spots available in select events for both the USRowing Youth National Championships and the Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) Regatta. Last year, more than 430 boats from 70 programs raced at the City Championships.
The 2023 USRowing Youth National Championships will be held in partnership with Visit Sarasota County and the Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy from June 8-11 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla. Athletes must qualify for the event through one of 12 qualification regattas, which are held over the next four weekends.
The nation's premier rowing venue, Nathan Benderson Park has hosted numerous national and international rowing events including the 2022 USRowing Youth National Championships.
