USRowing Introduces Regatta Pass Lite
USRowing is launching a new option for teams looking to race at sanctioned regattas: Regatta Pass Lite. For $100, this pass will allow non-member organizations with insurance that meets USRowing’s requirements to participate in sanctioned regattas without committing to an annual membership.
The already available $250 Regatta Pass (including insurance) and the new $100 Regatta Pass Lite (which does not) serve as temporary organizational memberships. They are valid only for the duration of the specific USRowing-sanctioned regatta chosen at the time of purchase. Many teams—such as alumni crews at fall head races or scholastic and collegiate teams attending a handful of sanctioned regattas—already take advantage of Regatta Passes each year.
A single Regatta Pass or Regatta Pass Lite covers up to 12 entries for one regatta. If your organization has unique circumstances and needs special accommodation, feel free to contact us at members@usrowing.org.
A few key details to keep in mind:
- Neither pass covers individual membership requirements, as they are temporary organizational memberships.
- Organizations can purchase up to two Regatta Passes or two Regatta Pass Lites per year. If your team attends three or more sanctioned regattas, we recommend the year-round Standard organizational membership for the best value.
If you’re interested in securing a Regatta Pass Lite before it becomes available in the Member Portal in May, please complete this application form.
Regatta Pass & Regatta Pass Lite FAQs
Below are the most common FAQs. Click here for the full list of Regatta Pass and Regatta Pass Lite FAQs.
What does a Regatta Pass cost, and what does it cover?
A Regatta Pass costs $250 per regatta. It provides organizations with general liability insurance as well as sexual abuse and molestation insurance coverage for the duration of the event on a primary basis for groups not already carrying year-round coverage. If a team already carries coverage, the insurance provided by a Regatta Pass is secondary. It does not cover practice that is not sanctioned by the regatta, and practice that is not at the regatta site (i.e., any practice at home before traveling the regatta – it is only for the regatta week or weekend).
IMPORTANT: The Regatta Pass and Regatta Pass Lite do not cover the individual membership requirement. They are temporary organizational memberships for teams that choose not to be year-round USRowing members.
What does a Regatta Pass Lite cost, and what does it cover?
A Regatta Pass Lite costs $100 per regatta. It does not provide organizations with any form of insurance coverage.
The fee associated with this pass covers administrative expenses related to verifying the Certificate of Insurance, platform fees, and regatta compliance checks.
IMPORTANT: The Regatta Pass and Regatta Pass Lite do not cover the individual membership requirement. They are temporary organizational memberships for teams that choose not to be year-round USRowing members.
Who commonly purchases a Regatta Pass or Regatta Pass Lite?
A Regatta Pass (insurance included) and Regatta Pass Lite (insurance not included) are bought by a team that does not need year-round organizational membership. This includes, but is not limited to, teams that attend a small number of USRowing sanctioned regattas or alumni teams that only form to race at a single regatta.
Can an organization purchase multiple Regatta Passes or Regatta Pass Lites?
Yes, the number of Regatta Passes (insurance included) and Regatta Pass Lites (insurance not included) purchased by a team is limited to two per organization, per year. For example, alumni groups in different regions of the country may purchase two over the course of the year to attend various regattas. However, we want to emphasize that any time between two Regatta Passes - and between two regattas - would not be covered by USRowing’s insurance included with a Regatta Pass.
Regatta Pass and Regatta Pass Lite are temporary memberships with annual purchase limits per organization. They are designed for clubs and crews that rarely compete in sanctioned regattas.
Organizations who wish to request an exception to the two-pass limit may email members@usrowing.org.
What are the parameters for using a Regatta Pass or Regatta Pass Lite?
Regatta Pass Lite organizations must carry their own insurance and submit a Certificate of Insurance (COI) that meets USRowing requirements. Click here to find the COI form and a list of requirements.
A single Regatta Pass or Regatta Pass Lite covers up to 12 entries for a single sanctioned regatta. If an organization has circumstances that may warrant special accommodation, it can request them by contacting members@usrowing.org.
The limit is set to 12 entries per sanctioned regatta, as historical data shows that this is the typical high-end number of entries most organizations submit to a single regatta.
What are the individual membership requirements if my team purchases a Regatta Pass or Regatta Pass Lite?
To compete at a sanctioned regatta, an individual must:
- Register or renew individual membership with USRowing for active status. Basic ($25 per year, $20 to renew) or Collegiate ($50 for four years) level membership suffice for events sanctioned but not owned by USRowing. Events owned by USRowing – i.e., USRowing Youth and Masters Regionals and National Championships require Championship ($65 per year, $55 to renew) level membership;
- Electronically sign the USRowing membership agreement and waiver annually;
- If you are 18 years of age or older, complete the U.S. Center for SafeSport Self-Attestation, which determines whether you are also required to complete the SafeSport Trained course;
- If you row with a USRowing member organization, add your club or team affiliation to your profile (your team’s administrator can provide your club code).
