Tight Racing Highlights Day Two at the 2026 USRowing Youth National Championships
A Final qualification was on the line throughout the day at the 2026 USRowing Youth National Championships, producing close races across multiple events. From early-morning time trials to closely contested semifinals, margins were razor-thin across multiple events.
The day began at 7:00 a.m. with time trials for the men's U17 quadruple sculls. One of the closest races of the morning came in the women's U17 eight, where Chicago Rowing Foundation (Chicago, Ill.) edged Sammamish Rowing Association (Redmond, Wash.) by just 0.29 seconds. Time trials continued through 8:07 a.m., concluding with the Mixed Youth Inclusive double sculls.
A/B semifinals followed immediately and delivered several thrilling finishes. The fifth semifinal of the day, the first men's youth pair semifinal, featured a dramatic sprint to the line. Capital Crew (Gold River, Calif.) surged ahead in the closing strokes to secure an A Final berth in a photo finish over Central Ohio Rowing (Dublin, Ohio).
In the women's youth pair, Inglemoor High School (Kenmore, Wash.) turned in a dominant performance, winning its semifinal by more than seven seconds.
Hinsdale Community Rowing (Lemont, Ill.) missed advancing to the A final, finishing fifth in the same semifinal. The crew's appearance marked another milestone for the young program, which was established in 2023 and rows out of shipping containers on the outskirts of Chicago. Their success at the Midwest Championships and now at Youth Nationals is a testament to the hard work and determination of their athletes, Juliet Harrington and Grace Matthews.
Tight racing continued in the men's coxed four, where the top two finishers in both semifinals were separated by less than a second. One of the most exciting races of the day came in the first women's four semifinal, where the top five boats crossed the line within two seconds of one another, and the final spot in the A Final came down to .28 seconds.
In the women's eight, RowAmerica Rye (Rye, N.Y.) delivered one of the day's most commanding performances, winning their semifinal by nearly nine seconds over Winter Park Crew (Winter Park, Fla.).
The men's youth eight semifinal produced another thrilling battle, with six crews, from third through eighth place, finishing within four seconds of each other.
Lightning in the area forced the remaining semifinals to be postponed and rescheduled. Saturday's adjusted schedule will begin at 7:00 a.m. with the remaining semifinals. Following those races, B finals for U16 and U17 events will take place, followed by C and D finals. Racing concludes Sunday with A finals in all events, followed by the remaining B finals.
The Graduation ceremony and Toast in the Tower have been rescheduled for tomorrow evening. Racing will be streamed live on Overnght.com. Results will be available here. A photo gallery of racing is available here.
