USRowing Announces PR3 Mixed Four with Coxswain and PR3 Mixed Double Sculls for Paris 2024 Paralympic Games
USRowing is pleased to announce the PR3 mixed four with coxswain and PR3 mixed double sculls crews that will represent the United States at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France.
The two crews were chosen through a selection camp process, which concluded this past weekend in Sarasota, Fla. These are the first two crews – Olympic or Paralympic – to be selected for the Paris 2024 Games.
While this year's boats will feature all first-time Paralympians, all seven athletes reached the medal stand at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
"This was a very competitive camp, and I congratulate all the athletes," said USRowing Director of Para High Performance Ellen Minzner. "I also would like to thank the college coaches for supporting our program by helping their student athletes develop a successful path to the Paralympic team."
The PR3 mixed four with coxswain, which won the silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games as well as a silver medal at last year's world championships, will feature coxswain Emelie Eldracher (Andover, Mass./Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Ben Washburne (Madison, Conn./Williams College), Alex Flynn (Wilmington, Mass./Tufts University), Skylar Dahl (Minneapolis, Minn./University of Virginia), and Gemma Wollenschlaeger (St. Augustine Beach, Fla./Temple University). Eldracher, Washburne, Flynn, and Dahl were all part of the PR3 mixed four that won silver in Belgrade last year, while Wollenschlaeger won silver in the PR3 mixed double sculls.
The Paris PR3 mixed double sculls crew will feature Todd Vogt (Rochester, N.Y./University of Buffalo/Portland Boat Club) and Saige Harper (Easthampton, Mass./Sacred Heart University). Now a four-time national team member, Vogt partnered with Wollenschlaeger to win silver in the event in Belgrade, while Harper was part of the PR3 mixed four with coxswain in Serbia.
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are scheduled from August 28 to September 8, with para rowing events beginning August 30. Five boat classes will be contested in Paris including the PR1 men's and women's single sculls, PR2 mixed double sculls, PR3 mixed double sculls, and PR3 mixed four with coxswain.
The remaining U.S. Paralympic boats have yet to qualify for Paris. Those three boats will be selected at the 2024 U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials – Rowing scheduled for April 2-7 in Sarasota. The winners in Sarasota will then race at the 2024 World Rowing Final Olympic & Paralympic Regatta in May in Lucerne, Switzerland, to try to earn a spot for Paris.
USRowing would like to thank Filippi Lido, the Official Boat Supplier for the U.S. Senior, Under 23, and Para Rowing National Teams. Under the agreement, Filippi is providing USRowing a fleet of boats for international competitions including the World Rowing Cup regattas, World Rowing Under 23 Championships, World Rowing Championships, Olympic Games, and Paralympic Games, as well as a domestic training fleet for the USRowing Training Centers.
