Race for Team USA
Talent Identification & Development
USRowing collects erg scores for all athletes who want to be considered for the national team. Scores will be considered for discretionary invitations to selection camps. USRowing expects athletes to submit at least one 6k and one 2k during the seven-month period in which the data will be collected. If an athlete wishes to submit scores, it must be submitted before the last day of the month and will be reviewed within the next seven days.
Erg Testing Requirements
- All athletes submitting times must be United States citizens.
- Testing must be done on a stationary C2 ergometer.
- Results must be able to be verified by a coach and their contact information must be provided.
- All erg tests will be listed as open rate. If athletes submit scores that were rate capped, they may indicate so on the submission form but the rate cap will not be posted.
FAQs
I am the only rower with a disability at my club. How can I connect with other Para rowers?
There are a few ways you can connect with other Para rowers:
1. Update your USRowing member profile and be sure to select Para in your profile.
2. Compete at a USRowing or other regatta. Eligibility requirements to compete are HERE. Regattas are a great way to meet other athletes in your Para rowing sport class. USRowing events offer a range of indoor and on-water events for rowers with disabilities. For a complete list of Para rowing events, please visit: https://www.usrowing.org/competitions
3. Update your erg score to be considered for an upcoming Para rowing camp.
Are Para Selection and Development camps divided by age category, U19 and U23?
No. Since there is not currently a U19 or a U23 World Championships for Para rowers, we do not differentiate by age for our Selection or Development camps.
Do I need to live in Boston to make the Para National or Paralympic Team?
Boston is the designated Training Center for the Para National Team, and athletes who are training full time at an international level are invited to train in Boston on a short term or long-term basis. While residing in Boston and training at the Training Center full time is not required, it is important for athletes to come together and work with the HP staff.
Where do I find information on classification?
Do coxswains need to be classified?
No, coxswains for the PR3 Mixed 4+ are not required to have a disability, and therefore, do not go through classification. Coxswains for the PR3 Mixed 4+ may be of either gender.
Is classification permanent?
If you are classified with a status of “confirmed” it is considered valid for the duration of your rowing career. If you are classified with a status of “review” with a date, you will need to be reclassified again within your review window, or at your first competition after that date.
What are the Erg Standards for Para Rowing?
USRowing recommends the following erg targets for athletes who wish to compete at a high level. The scores are targets, and not cut off points, and the age and experience level of the athlete should be taken into account when assessing athlete potential.
