After rowing, he would like to become a cancer researcher. He lists the Housatonic as his favorite place to race and the Rocky Mountains as his favorite place to travel. He lists the men's eight winning gold in 2004 and Matthias Steiner's clean and jerk 258 to win 2008 Beijing gold as his favorite Olympic moments. His favorite band of all time is The Eagles.
