2023 USRowing Youth Series – Week 3 Preview
Two weeks down; two weeks to go. The road to the 2023 USRowing Youth National Championships continues this weekend as three more qualification regattas will be held across the country.
For the first time, USRowing will be live streaming all of its regional youth championships leading up to youth nationals. Head to the USRowing YouTube Channel for all the live streaming.
Over 1,300 athletes are scheduled to race at the 2023 USRowing Northwest Youth Championships May 19-21 on Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, Wash. Twenty-nine clubs have entered 620 boats across the 69 events, with Pocock Youth Rowing leading the way in entries with 45. Bainbridge Island Rowing, Sammamish Rowing Association, and Green Lake Crew also have 40 or more crews scheduled to race. The men's high school eight has 19 crews competing, while the men's youth novice double sculls, women's youth double, and women's high school eight all have 18 crews entered. Last year, Green Lake won the overall points trophy, while Holy Names Academy won the women's points trophy and Sammamish Rowing Association won the men's points trophy.
More than 1,800 athletes and 480 boats from 51 clubs are scheduled to race May 20-21 at the 2023 USRowing Northeast Youth Championships in Worcester, Mass. Community Rowing, Inc., and Greenwich Crew each have 31 boats scheduled to race on Lake Quinsigamond. The men's and women's youth four with coxswain have the most entries, with 27 and 24 crews, respectively.
The 2023 Midwest Junior Rowing Championships will take place May 20-21 at Harsha Lake in Bethel, Ohio. More than 500 crews from 40 clubs are scheduled to race in the regatta. Chicago Rowing Foundation leads the way with 44 crews entered, while St. Louis Rowing Club has 37 boats scheduled to compete. The men's varsity single sculls has 22 scullers vying for the medals, while 21 crews are entered in both the men's and women's varsity double sculls.
Last weekend, five youth nationals' qualification regattas took place.
Nearly 1,500 athletes competed at the 2023 USRowing Southeast Youth Championships in Gainesville, Ga. Sarasota Crew won the overall and men's points trophies, while St. Andrew Rowing Club won the women's points trophy. Belen Jesuit Crew won the efficiency trophy.
Over 1,800 athletes raced at the 2023 USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. PNRA/Mercer won the overall and men's points trophies, while Whitemarsh Boat Club won the women's points trophy. Row New Jersey took home the efficiency trophy.
The 2023 Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships had more than 550 boats competing at Kent Lake in Milford, Mich., with New Trier High School Rowing taking the overall points trophy. Skyline Crew won both the men's and women's sculling trophies, while Saint Joseph Academy and St. Ignatius Cleveland won the women's and men's sweep trophies, respectively.
The 2023 New York State High School Rowing Championships featured more than 600 boats racing in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., with Row America Rye winning numerous events including both the boy's and girl's varsity eights. Oak Neck Academy won several of the sculling events including sweeping the boy's and girl's varsity single sculls, double sculls, and quadruple sculls events.
The 2023 Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships featured more than 200 clubs racing on the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax Station, Va. Wakefield High School won the women's eight, with McLean High School winning the men's eight.
Presented by Broadridge Financial Solutions Inc., the 2023 USRowing Youth National Championships will be held in partnership with Visit Sarasota County and the Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy from June 8-11 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla. Athletes must qualify for the event through one of 12 qualification regattas, which are held over the next four weekends.
