USRowing Announces U23 Selection Camp Invitations
Fifty seven athletes have been invited to USRowing’s 2026 Under 23 National Team Selection Camp, where they will compete for spots in the men’s and women’s four, quadruple sculls, double sculls, and eight. These boats will represent the United States at the 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships, scheduled for July 23–26 in Duisburg, Germany.
The men’s and women’s single sculls, PR3 single sculls, pair, lightweight single sculls, and lightweight double sculls events will be selected through Trials July 3-5.
Sergio Espinoza will serve as head coach of the entire U23 program. Under his leadership in 2025, the men’s four made history by capturing the United States’ first-ever gold medal in the event at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships. Espinoza will again coach the men’s four in addition to the women’s scullers. Gia Doonan will coach the women’s four, while Asiya Mahmud will lead the women’s eight. On the men’s side, Trevor Michelson will coach the men’s eight and Andrew Hess will coach the men’s scullers, supported by a broader staff that includes Lizzie Mitchell, and Noah Axford.
Twelve athletes from last year’s U23 World Championships team return to the selection camp, joined by four athletes who represented the United States at the 2025 World Rowing Under 19 Championships.
