The Inaugural Youth Beach Sprint National Championships Start Tomorrow
USRowing hosts the inaugural Youth Beach Sprint National Championships this weekend at South Lido Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida.
The first event of its kind in the United States, the 2025 Youth Beach Sprint National Championships will bring together top junior athletes from across the country to compete in this fast-paced, high-energy coastal rowing format. Racing will take place June 17-18, featuring head-to-head knockout sprints that begin with a beach run, followed by a slalom-style rowing course, and ending with a dramatic sprint back to the sand.
Tuesday will begin with practices to better understand the sport and the conditions at the location. Afternoon racing will include a time trial to seed athletes for Wednesday morning heats. National Champions will be named on Wednesday, June 18. The men's single sculls event has the most entries, with 16, and features several Florida teams, including Sarasota Crew and Great Miami Rowing Center. Both teams walked away with national titles this past weekend at the 2025 Youth National Championships for flat water rowing.
Athletes will compete in various boat classes, including the men’s and women’s single sculls, open gender double, and men’s and women’s double. The event is meant to inspire the next generation of U.S. rowing talent as we look forward to the LA2028 Games and the introduction of Beach Sprints as a discipline.
The event will be streamed live on Overnght.
