USRowing Northeast Youth Championships Return to Saratoga

The USRowing Northeast Youth Championships will return to Saratoga, New York, in both 2027 and 2028, marking the first time the event has been held in Saratoga since 2021.

Bringing the championship back to Saratoga provides a robust regional racing opportunity for Northeast youth crews while returning to a venue that has successfully hosted USRowing competitions.

USRowing Masters National Championships Return to a Dedicated Format

Beginning in 2027, USRowing will return to a dedicated Masters National Championships, transitioning away from the eight-day USRowing RowFest National Championships format that has in recent years served Youth, U17, U23, Open, and Masters athletes. The USRowing Masters National Championships will be a four-day national championship focused on Masters racing. The dedicated Youth, U17, U23, and Open portions of the competition will be discontinued.

“This change reflects the consistent feedback USRowing has heard in recent years from athletes, coaches, and clubs at these National Championships,” said Sarah McAuliffe, Chief Program Officer at USRowing. “We greatly appreciate the many, many rowing community members who have participated and supported this long-running event in every variation it’s had. In the last 10-15 years we’ve tested and tried multiple competition and racing formats in an effort to support all stakeholder needs, and in turn we created versions of the event that haven’t left participants completely satisfied with their racing experience.”

Under the 2026 USRowing Rules of Rowing, Masters competition begins at age 21. U23 and Open athletes who are age 21 or older therefore remain eligible to compete in applicable Masters categories.

McAuliffe added, “The discontinuation of the dedicated Youth, U17, Open and U23 portions of RowFest National Championships wasn’t a decision made lightly. We pride ourselves on offering best-in-class experiences for our participants and can now do that for our Masters athletes – including those in the U23 category – with a dedicated national championship. Dually, we also intend for the younger athletes to have a better experience and opportunity to develop through competitive racing that’s local to their club.”

With the return to a Masters-focused championship, the event will once again be called the USRowing Masters National Championships

The 2027 USRowing Masters National Championships will take place July 15-18 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Date and location for the 2028 event will be announced in late 2027.

USRowing Pacific Masters Championships

Beginning in 2027, this regional event will transition from the “USRowing Northwest Masters Championships” to the “USRowing Pacific Masters Championships.”. The renaming demonstrates USRowing’s commitment to building an event that better represents the athletes and clubs who attend. While the regatta has long been established in the Northwest, its reach has continued to expand, bringing in Masters competitors from throughout the Pacific Coast and beyond. The decision is part of a broader vision to better serve the Masters rowing community and create an event where teams from across the region feel welcomed and excited to compete. The Northwest region has a rich rowing history, a passionate community, and a long tradition of high level racing on the water, which the Pacific Masters Championships will continue to celebrate.

Member Feedback Requested

USRowing is evaluating the schedule and venue rotation for the 2027 and 2028 Pacific Masters Championships.

With the USRowing Northwest Masters Championships held at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Oregon in recent years, USRowing is excited to bring Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, Washington, back into the championship rotation. USRowing is currently considering the venue and schedule for both seasons, with final details to be announced after feedback from members and the Northwest Masters Council.

USRowing has heard from members interested in moving the Pacific Masters Championships earlier in the season. Members are invited to share whether they would prefer the 2027 event to take place May 21-23 or June 25-27, 2027.

Click here to take the Pacific Masters Championships survey. The survey will remain open through September 25, 2026. USRowing will review the results and discuss feedback with the Northwest Masters Council before finalizing the 2027 and 2028 schedules.

The USRowing Pacific Masters Championships will remain open to all eligible competitors, including athletes and crews traveling from the Southwest and other regions.

Plan Ahead for 2027

Hotel booking is now available for the 2027 USRowing regatta season through USRowing Hotels. Booking for 2028 events will open approximately one year before each event.

USRowing also reminds members that 2027 Entry Packets will be available for public comment December 1-31, 2026. The comment period gives members an opportunity to review event-specific information and offer feedback ahead of the 2027 racing season.
