USRowing Announces Camp-Selected Boats for 2022 World Rowing Under 19 Championships
USRowing is pleased to announce the athletes who have been selected to represent the United States at the 2022 World Rowing Under 19 Championships in Varese, Italy, in the eight camp-selected boats -- the men's and women's four, four with coxswain, quadruple sculls, and eight.
The regatta is the premier event for rowers under the age of 19 and offers a total of 14 events. The other six U.S. boats were selected at the 2022 USRowing Under 19 National Team Trials in Sarasota in June.
At the 2021 World Rowing Under 19 Championships held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the U.S. won medals in four events including gold in the women's four with coxswain, men's eight, and women's eight and bronze in the men's single sculls.
In the camp-selected boats, 17 athletes return from last year's team including three from the gold medal men's eight, three from the gold medal women's eight, and two from the gold medal women's four with coxswain.
Under the overall direction of USRowing Under 19 National Team System Head Coach Casey Galvanek, Eric Gehrke will serve as the men's lead coach for Varese, while Caitlin McClain will serve as the women's lead coach.
Supporting McClain on the women's side are Skye Elliot, Galvanek, and Mike Wallin, while Brian de Regt, Andrew Hess, and Cary Wasserman will work with Gehrke as men's boat coaches.
The 2022 World Rowing Under 19 Championships is set to take place July 27-31. A complete roster, including coaches and staff, will be announced later this week.
USRowing would like to thank HUDSON, the Official Boat Supplier for the U.S. Under 19 National Team. Through the partnership, HUDSON supplies racing shells for selection and training domestically, with matched shells provided internationally for racing.
