USRowing Announces Camp-Selected Boats for World Rowing Under 23 Championships
USRowing is pleased to announce the athletes who have been selected to represent the United States at the 2021 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, in the seven camp-selected boats -- the men's quadruple sculls, women's quadruple sculls, women's four, men's four with coxswain, women's four with coxswain, men's eight, and women's eight.
The regatta is the premier event for rowers under the age of 23 and offers a total of 22 events. The other 15 U.S. boats were selected last week at the 2021 USRowing Under 23 National Team Trials.
At the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships held in Sarasota, Florida, the U.S. won medals in seven events including gold in the lightweight men's single sculls; silver in the women's single sculls, men's eight and lightweight women's pair; and bronze in the women's eight, women's four, and lightweight women's quadruple sculls.
In the camp-selected boats, Teal Cohen and Peter Chatain are the only returnees to the U23 squad. Cohen won a bronze medal in the women's four at the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships. In 2021, she will be racing in both the women's eight and women's four. Chatain raced in the men's four with coxswain in 2019 and is part of the men's eight this year.
The women's selection camp took place at the University of Iowa under the direction of Andrew Carter, while the men's camp was held at Northeastern University under the direction of Jesse Foglia.
The 2021 World Rowing Under 23 Championships is set to take place July 7-11. A complete roster, including coaches and staff, will be announced next week.
