Seven Trophies Awarded at Day One of Masters National Championships


Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind. saw 75 total races today with medals in 42 events. After an exciting day of racing at the 2023 USRowing Masters National Championships, seven clubs and athletes walked away with trophies. In the women's lightweight C four with coxswain final, the Western Reserve Association Composite boat took home the Leila Weir Trophy. Western Reserve Association finished with a time of 4:21:214. The only other boat in the race, Capital Rowing Club, finished at 4:45:919. Taking home the Pearson Cup for the women's club D eight was Capital Rowing Club. Capital clocked a 3:33:626 race with Texas Rowing Center hot on their tails at 3:35:768. With the last boat coming in at 3:56:349, all boats in the event finished with a sub-four minute 1000 meters. Virginia Boat Club's composite boat also had a narrow win over Nashville Rowing to take home the Espresso Splendido Cup. Virginia finished at 3:44:566 in front of Nashville, who clocked 3:46:629. The race was tight through the podium as well, with Lincoln Park Boat Club earning bronze at 3:46:629, less than a second after Nashville. The Hanbury Cup was awarded to Capital Rowing Club for taking gold in the women's open C eight. Capital was one of four boats in the race, and with a time of 3:35:152, the team came in five seconds ahead of Riverfront Recapture Inc. With gold in the mens open H double sculls, Detroit Boat Club took home the Robert E. Houston Trophy. The boat was manned by Richard Anderson and Dennis Sitek, who finished with a time of 4:04:347. Saugatuck Rowing Club LLC and Newport Sea Base Composite finished in second and third respectively. Lincoln Park Boat Club took home the San Diego Rowing Club Trophy for their gold in the men's club A four with coxswain. Lincoln Park crossed the finish line at 3:24:523, nearly two seconds ahead of Austin Rowing Club, who finished at 3:26:139. Lincoln Park also took gold in the women's club A four with coxswain immediately following the men's event. Atlanta Rowing Club, Inc. took the Jennifer Ney Award for their first place finish in the women's club B quadruple sculls. Atlanta Inc. was one of five boats racing and finished at 3:47:391. Atlanta would have shared the award with the winner of the women's club B eight, however the race was canceled due to inclement weather. Due to inclement weather, racing was canceled for the remainder of the day following the 4:20 p.m. races.
