Women’s Eight Wins Bronze at 2025 FISU World University Games
The 2025 FISU World University Summer Games brought together more than 8,500 student-athletes and officials from over 150 countries to compete across 18 sports, making it one of the world’s largest multi-sport events. Held from July 16–27 in cities throughout Germany, rowing took place in Duisburg alongside beach volleyball, basketball, and water polo.
The Games’ rowing events concluded yesterday, with 27 rowers representing the United States across eight events: the men’s and women’s single sculls, the women’s pair, the women’s double, the men’s and women’s four, the mixed quadruple sculls, and the women’s eight. After summer training in Ypsilanti, Michigan (sweep) and High Point, North Carolina (sculling), the U.S. athletes traveled to Germany ready to test their speed on the international stage.
The standout performance came from the U.S. women’s eight, who won bronze after moving through Germany at the 500 mark to secure third place. In the mixed quadruple sculls, the U.S. crew dominated the B final with a half-length victory over the Chinese, Taipei. The men’s four also topped their B final, finishing seventh overall in a tightly contested race, edging out New Zealand by just over a second.
The women’s double sculls had a 10th-place finish, ending fourth in a competitive B final, while the women’s four and pair both finished 11th. Ingrid Lofgren placed 20th in the women’s single, while Nathan Damas placed 29th in the men’s single after three hard-fought races in two days.
With strong performances, the U.S athletes gained valuable international experience in one of the premier university-level competitions in the world.
