USRowing Announces 2025 World Rowing Under 23 Championships Roster
USRowing is pleased to announce the roster of the 2025 Under 23 National Team that will represent the U.S. in Poznan, Poland on July 23-27.
The U.S. will have crews competing in nine events including the men's and women's four and eight, as well as the men’s quadruple sculls, men’s pair, men’s double sculls, lightweight men’s single, and lightweight men’s double sculls. The U.S. will not be sending boats in events that did not meet the competitive standard time.
At the 2024 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in St. Catharines, Canada, the United States captured five medals, one gold and four silvers, in a strong showing of emerging talent. Fourteen athletes from last year’s squad return to the U23 national team in 2025, including Sam Sullivan, the 2024 U23 Male Athlete of the Year and Braden Porterfield, who helped row the men’s four with coxswain to a gold-medal finish. Natalie Hoefer made her third consecutive U23 teams, Quincy Stone made her fourth team (two U19 and two U23 teams), while Ella Wheeler earned her first U23 selection after winning gold in the women’s four with coxswain at the 2023 U19 World Championships.
The men’s quadruple sculls crew features three returning athletes from last year’s team. Yale’s Timothy Parsons, who won the men’s single sculls at this year’s U23 Trials, opted to attend the selection camp instead. Stanford’s James Fetter, a Stanford walk-on who learned to scull in 2024, returns after finishing eighth in the men’s single sculls last year. Joining them are Yale’s John Patton, who raced the double in 2024 with his brother James, and Brown University’s Davis Kelly, a two-time U19 national team member making his U23 debut.
Columbia University’s Adam Pushner and Colton Millar return in the men’s pair after setting a new American U23 record in the event last year. The duo finished fifth at the 2024 championships and will look to improve on that performance in 2025.
The U23 roster includes athletes from 16 states. California leads the way with seven athletes.
