USRowing Foundation Adds Gerry Cardinale as Trustee

USRowing is pleased to announce the addition of Gerry Cardinale – Founder, Managing Partner, and Chief Investment Officer of RedBird Capital Partners – as Trustee to the USRowing Foundation (USRF).

Gerry Cardinale (New York, N.Y.) was a varsity member of the heavyweight rowing team at Harvard University from 1985 to 1989, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He then went to Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and rowed in the Isis crew for the 1990 Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race.

“Gerry is one of the premiere investment professionals in the sports, media, and entertainment industries and brings incredible strategic insights to our Foundation,” said USRF Chair Bill McNabb, former Chairman and CEO of Vanguard. “We are incredibly lucky to have Gerry’s expertise and connections with us as we continue planning for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles."

Cardinale’s firm RedBird manages $10 billion of equity on behalf of a select group of blue-chip institutional and family office investors. The Firm’s legacy and current investment portfolio includes many of the world’s most iconic entrepreneurs, properties, and brands across the sports, media, and entertainment industries.

RedBird’s investments include Fenway Sports Group, the Yankees Entertainment & Sports (“YES”) Network, Skydance Media, Artists Equity, The Springhill Company, Talent Systems, Everpass Media, the United Football League (UFL), and European football’s A.C. Milan. Cardinale and RedBird were the architects of Legends Hospitality, On Location Experiences, and OneTeam Partners, three of the most impactful new companies in the sports sector. RedBird has also created a new joint venture company with Abu Dhabi’s International Media Investments called RedBird-IMI, which invests strategically across media and entertainment, news, and live event entertainment.

Prior to founding RedBird in 2014, Gerry spent 20 years at Goldman Sachs, where he was a Partner of the firm and a senior leader of the Merchant Bank’s private equity investing business. During his tenure, Gerry worked with entrepreneurs and family business owners to build several successful multibillion-dollar companies.
